POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Analyst to join our finance team at Spicer Group, Inc., a leading engineering, surveying, and planning firm. This role will support key financial functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis, while playing a critical role in special projects that drive business performance. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience with financial software tools, specifically Deltek Vantagepoint, SAP Concur, Microsoft Office Suite and preferably Workday Adaptive Planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting amp; Analysis
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company objectives
  • Analyze financial performance, including variances from budget and prior periods, and provide insights to management
  • Assist with the preparation of consolidated financial statements and other key reports for executive leadership
  • Support the finance team with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed
Budgeting amp; Forecasting
  • Assist the budgeting and forecasting processes, including preparation of budgets for various departments, projects, and cost centers
  • Collaborate with department heads to collect and review budget assumptions, ensuring financial accuracy and alignment with operational goals
  • Conduct regular forecasting updates to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations for adjustments
Financial Accounting
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
  • Participate in month end and year end close process including account reconciliations and adjusting journal entries
  • Support finance leadership and external accounting firm in completion of annual financial statement review and overhead audit
  • Support AP personnel with employee expense reimbursements and employee credit card transactions
  • Assist with payroll items including recording entries, year-end reconciliations, ad hoc reports
Special Projects amp; Business Support
  • Assist and lead implementation of various software programs that impact accounts payable and financial reporting functions to streamline efficiency
  • Work on various financial modeling and analysis projects, including capital expenditures, cost-benefit analysis, and pricing strategies
  • Participate in business performance improvement initiatives by analyzing financial data and providing actionable insights
  • Support strategic business planning by assessing financial implications of potential projects, acquisitions, or operational changes
Systems and Tools Management
  • Utilize Deltek Vantagepoint, SAP Concur, and Workday Adaptive Planning to streamline financial processes, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance decision-making
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of financial systems and tools to ensure data integrity and efficiency
  • Provide training and support to finance team members on financial systems and software usage
Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure financial information is accurate and timely for project-related decision-making
  • Provide financial insights to non-finance personnel, helping them to understand financial data in the context of operational goals

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (CPA or CMA designation a plus)
  • Background in financial accounting, financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, month end close and ad hoc reporting
  • Proficiency in financial software tools, preferably Deltek Vantagepoint or similar project based ERP
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, financial modeling)
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in an engineering, construction, or project-based industry
  • 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting
  • Familiarity with project accounting and cost control in a project-driven business environment
  • Ability to drive process improvements and efficiencies in financial workflows
  • Experience with ERP systems and integration between financial systems and operational tools
  • Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation Overhead reporting
