Summary/Objective

The Financial Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing financial and operational data to evaluate profitability, cost trends, and overall operational effectiveness. This position will be responsible for designing and implementing the necessary tools within Microsoft Business Central to support the accurate collection, tracking, and analysis of project costs. The role partners closely with Sales, Operations, Estimating, Project Management, and Finance to ensure accurate cost reporting, improve processes, and support data-driven decision-making aligned with the Company's strategic goals.

What You'll Do
  • Analyze financial and operational data to evaluate profitability, cost drivers, trends, and variances impacting business performance.
  • Review sales order packages for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with financial and operational requirements.
  • Track open orders and prepare weekly forecasts, projections, and profitability analyses.
  • Perform product, project, and job cost analysis, identifying discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for cost savings and margin improvement.
  • Design, implement, and maintain cost-tracking tools and reporting processes within Microsoft Business Central.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance KPI dashboards and reporting tools that support the Company's strategic objectives.
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes, controls, and policies to reduce costs and maximize profitability.
  • Support annual external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Estimating, Sales, and Project Management teams to ensure accurate costing and financial visibility.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, reconciliations, and other accounting responsibilities as needed.
  • Lead or support ad hoc financial analysis projects and special initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Finance and overall business operations.
What We're Looking For
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling, and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and financial databases.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and communicate findings to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with Excel automation, VBA, or financial reporting automation.
  • Manufacturing, fabrication, construction, industrial distribution, or project-based costing experience.
  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward professional certification.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial analysis, cost accounting, project accounting, or a related role.
  • Experience developing financial reports, dashboards, and forecasting models preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to occasionally walk through office, warehouse, and production environments.
