Job Summary:                                   

Plans, organizes and directs all aspects of the financial department for Bristol Hospital & Health Care Group, excluding the physician practice group (Multi Specialty Group). In addition, will oversee the development/administration of policies on finance, accounting, insurance, internal controls, budget, auditing, payroll, benefits and claims processing.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Supervises the Finance Team:

  • Directs month-end close process ensuring close completion within established time-frame for assigned entities.
  • Develops, implements, and refines month-end close procedures/checklists to guide the work of assigned staff.
  • Ensures accuracy of internal financial statements by executing procedures for variance analysis.
  • Maintains an organized and efficient system for filing journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Oversees the analysis and reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Ensures proper recording of inter-company transactions including elimination entries.
  • Produces internal individual entities, consolidating, and consolidated interim financial statements monthly.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures to ensure proper classification and accounting for all aspects of fixed assets.
  • Implements and executes policies and procedures to ensure proper classification and accounting for temporary and permanently restricted contributions and proper and timely releases from restriction as appropriate.
  • Evaluates leases and other financing arrangements to ensure proper classification as operating or capital; ensures proper accounting of capital leases and operating.
  • Maintains schedule of outstanding debt/capital leases.
  • Stays abreast of all changes in generally accepted accounting principles.

Manages and Supports Completion of Annual Regulatory/Tax Filings

  • Manages the process to support the completion of annual cost reports.
  • Manages the process to support the completion of annual Office of Healthcare Access (OHCA) filings.
  • Manages the process to provide information necessary to support the completion of Form 990s.
  • Manages the process for various other financial filings throughout the year.

Maintains responsibility for professional growth and development of self and team

  • Regularly evaluates professional areas of strength and weakness, and seeks opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Develops plans to meet learning needs.
  • Monitors progress towards achievement of professional and educational goals.
  • Demonstrates initiative in seeking cost effective methods of augmenting professional knowledge and skills
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational / Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Accounting; Masters preferred; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for two (2) years of fiscal management. 
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience including three (3) years in a health care related organization, strongly preferred.
  • Three (3) years Supervisor/management experience, strongly preferred.

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:

  • None

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:

  • General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs
    as mandated by the Hospital.

Special Requirements:

  • Strong PC skills with ability to create and analyze spreadsheets and other complex financial
    data. Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. Strong
    management skills to supervise a diverse professional group.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extended sitting, together with occasional bending, reaching and stooping.

Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation.

Cognitive Requirements:

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving ability. Must be able to analyze, understand and
    communicate complex situations dealing with financial and related business affairs.
