Job description

Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and execution of CARPI waterproofing activities across the United States and Canada. This role oversees both repair and new construction projects involving large hydraulic structures, including dams, canals, and reservoirs.
The ideal candidate brings strong operational expertise, proven leadership ability, and the capacity to manage multiple teams and projects while maintaining profitability and exceptional safety performance. Significant travel-particularly June through October-is required to support field operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
  • Direct and support operational staff to ensure successful and timely project delivery.
  • Train, mentor, and coach employees in project management and execution best practices.
  • Supervise Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field labor staff (teams ranging from 5 to 30 employees).
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for all direct reports.
  • Maintain composure under pressure while demonstrating strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Communicate effectively, hold team members accountable, and foster a proactive, solution-oriented environment.
Financial & Operational Oversight
  • Manage project budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure profitability targets are met.
  • Approve spending within authority limits defined by senior leadership.
  • Plan, coordinate, and optimize labor resources to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Project Delivery & Client Relations
  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, negotiating contractual issues within authorized limits.
  • Collaborate with internal support departments to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Support business development initiatives by strengthening relationships with contractors and strategic partners.
  • Oversee all aspects of field operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and model a strong safety culture, ensuring all projects remain incident-free.
  • Enforce safety requirements and ensure proper use of PPE (hard hat with chin strap, eye/ear/respiratory protection, etc.).
  • Support corporate safety initiatives and ensure adherence to all safety policies and jobsite specifications.
Human Resources & Staffing
  • Assess staffing needs and work with HR on recruiting, onboarding, and workforce planning.
  • Ensure adequate field staffing during peak operational months (June-October).
  • Support employee development and cultivate a cohesive, high-performing team.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in construction operations or civil engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction, particularly geotechnical, earthwork, or concrete construction.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass an MVR check.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the US and Canada.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Preferred
  • Experience with dam or canal construction.
  • Bilingual abilities.
