Advisor - Financial Expert (IUHMG Community)

Summary

The Financial Expert Advisor provides financial guidance and subject matter expertise to support decision-making within a healthcare organization. This role focuses on financial planning and performance improvement initiatives that delivers on plan. The advisor partners with executive leadership, clinical teams, and finance departments to enhance financial sustainability, optimize resource utilization, and ensure alignment with industry best practices. Advises business units of financial performance and impact of decisions and thinks broadly to other downstream outcomes from changes. Uses expertise to work on large scale problems that are cross-departmental and impacting financial results. Partners with operational leadership within the region, along with other IU Health business units to identify growth and revenue opportunities that leverage services unique to the region and facility they lead. Creates executive-level reporting packages to communicate financial or other information on costs, prices, expenses, revenues, and various clinical and operational measures to make recommendations. Analyzes diverse sets of data including financial, operational, clinical and economic, to support strategic and operational decisions. Advises business units of financial performance and impact of decisions and thinks broadly to other downstream outcomes from changes. Serves as a trusted financial resource to operational leaders of the unit, providing financial reporting and analysis, expense management, operational improvement and the evaluation of growth opportunities. Combines strong relationships, analysis, and risk-conscious planning to ensure that the unit's plan is realized. Interfaces with both leadership and front-line team members to execute organizational development strategy and drive change initiatives across the unit. Partners with the Assistant CFOs, CFOs and leadership team(s) in the region to drive actions related to both the long-range financial planning process and the annual budget process, including both operating and capital decisions. Analyze complex financial data to drive operation improvement and/or subject matter expert knowledge in one or more key financial subject areas. Accountable for accurate volume and expense planning as known at the time in assigned areas to support regional leaders in being able to hit goals. Requires the ability to promote teamwork and develop team members without having direct reports - leading through influence. Possesses advanced knowledge of principles and practices of a particular field of specialization. Participates in research to progress field/practice area. Leads planning and development of programs/projects within specialization on a regular basis. Provided guidance/direction/training to staff. May lead non-reporting staff and ensure buy in for specific projects or share specialized expertise with other individuals. Has matrixed management responsibilities with financial analysts.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field required.

  • Master's degree preferred such as MBA, MHA or MS Finance. 

  • CPA, CFA or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Requires 6-8 years of experience.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, regulatory frameworks, and financial operations.

  • Requires knowledge of state and national regulatory agency guidelines and/or working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or other industry standard guidelines.

  • Requires experience successfully interacting with all levels of leadership.

  • Requires experience implementing large scale process improvement initiatives that drive measurable business results.

  • Deep expertise in financial modeling, analysis, and forecasting.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare economics and revenue cycle management.

  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills with executive-level stakeholders.

  • Ability to influence decision-making and drive organizational change.

  • High level of integrity and professional judgement.
