Job Overview
Artportunity Knocks is seeking a creative and passionate Film Instructor to lead engaging film and digital media programming for students in grades K through 12. This role focuses on introducing students to filmmaking, storytelling, video production, editing, and media creation through hands on projects and collaborative learning experiences.
The ideal candidate has experience in film production, digital media, or content creation and enjoys mentoring young creatives. Instructors will help students develop technical skills, creativity, communication, and confidence while exposing them to real world opportunities within the film and media industry.
Key Responsibilities
Film and Media Instruction
โข Teach fundamentals of filmmaking including storytelling, scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing
โข Introduce students to camera operation, lighting, audio recording, and production techniques
โข Lead hands on projects such as short films, interviews, music videos, documentaries, or digital content pieces
โข Help students understand the creative and technical aspects of film production
Creative Development and Student Engagement
โข Encourage creativity, collaboration, and self expression through media projects
โข Guide students through brainstorming, production planning, and project execution
โข Foster confidence, teamwork, and communication skills
โข Support students in presenting or showcasing completed projects
Technology and Production Support
โข Teach students how to use editing software, cameras, and production equipment
โข Support safe and responsible use of media equipment and technology
โข Introduce students to digital content creation and media trends
Classroom Management and Safety
โข Maintain a structured, safe, and positive learning environment
โข Supervise students during filming activities, production setups, and transitions
โข Implement classroom management strategies aligned with organizational policies
โข Ensure all activities are conducted safely and professionally
Career Exposure and Mentorship
โข Introduce students to career pathways within film, television, media, and digital content creation
โข Share industry insight related to production, directing, editing, screenwriting, acting, and media entrepreneurship
โข Encourage professionalism, leadership, and collaboration within creative environments
Program Development and Collaboration
โข Collaborate with program leadership to strengthen media and film curriculum
โข Contribute ideas for student showcases, screenings, or media events
โข Stay current on industry trends, technology, and creative tools
Qualifications
Required
โข College, High school diploma or GED
โข Experience in filmmaking, video production, content creation, or digital media
โข Ability to teach and engage students in hands on creative learning
โข Strong communication and classroom management skills
โข Ability to pass a background check
โข Ability to lift and move light production equipment when needed
Preferred
โข Degree or certification in Film, Media Production, Communications, or related field
โข Experience working with youth in educational or enrichment settings
โข Knowledge of editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar tools
โข Experience with photography, audio production, or social media content creation
