(QPWB), a multi-office national defense firm and the largest minority- and women-owned law firm in the United States, is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our Birmingham office, supporting attorneys handling civil litigation and insurance defense matters. This is a full-time, in-office position offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
โ€ข About the Role
The Paralegal will support attorneys through all phases of litigation, from case inception through resolution and trial. This position is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented legal professional who is comfortable managing multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will have a strong civil litigation background, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a litigation team.
โ€ข Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support attorneys in all phases of civil litigation and insurance defense matters
  • Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, and correspondence
  • Review, organize, and summarize medical records, reports, discovery materials, and other case-related documentation
  • Assist with written discovery and coordinate the collection and production of responsive documents
  • Manage case calendars and track court deadlines, hearings, depositions, mediations, and trial dates
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, experts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and court personnel
  • Assist with deposition, mediation, and trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness files, and case materials
  • Assist with Alabama State and Federal Court filings and ensure compliance with applicable filing procedures
  • Maintain organized and accurate electronic and physical case files
  • Monitor case progress and follow up on outstanding records, discovery, and other case-related items
  • Assist with attorney time entry, billing, and other administrative responsibilities as needed

  • 3+ years of paralegal experience in civil litigation preferred
  • Insurance defense experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, court rules, and case management
  • Familiarity with Alabama State and Federal Court filing procedures preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team
  • Paralegal certificate or degree in Legal Studies preferred
