Job Description

MANAGED FILE TRANSFER APPLICATION ENGINEER JOB DETAILS: 

  • Build and maintain the operational readiness of the application infrastructure in a mission critical computing environment. This position is responsible for managing assigned software products and associated hardware and operating systems relevant to the Enterprise Managed File Transfer function. The current architecture includes the EST Globalscape application solution.
  • Monitor performance of application and take action on changes. Respond to application outages and perform routine maintenance on assigned applications. Perform routine changes as assigned and according to change management procedures
  • Provide level 2 and 3 support for projects and implemented applications
  • Identify, isolate, and troubleshoot issues and drive development of solutions
  • Assist with capacity planning to ensure application is scaled to meet current and projected capacities.
  • Maintain version, patch and security levels, in accordance with the strategic direction of the company


Qualifications

MANAGED FILE TRANSFER APPLICATION ENGINEER MANDATORY SKILLS: 

  • Must have a basic understanding of UNIX fundamentals, standard command knowledge and programming languages. Familiarity with basic system administration tools and processes required.
  • Basic understanding of relational databases (i.e. Access, Oracle, and SQL Server) and basic SQL syntax including inserts, updates, deletes and joins.
  • Experience performing maintenance and administrative tasks within an application.
  • Microsoft Windows skills and troubleshooting experience.
  • Proficient in technical skills or knowledge in position-related areas; and the ability to keep current with that knowledge and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Basic networking knowledge including TCP/IP, peer-to-peer, RPC, shares, FTP and packets.
  • Understanding of security fundamentals and ability to force standards within each application.
  • Understanding and application of thorough testing procedures and quality control processes.
  • Knowledge of Web Server technology, including IIS, WebSphere, Apache, Tomcat, etc.
  • Ability to create and document instructions so that others can follow them.
  • A strong technical aptitude, strong problem solving skills
  • Programming / scripting knowledge in multiple languages, to include: HTML, JavaScript, Visual Basic, VBS/VBA, ASP, PERL, KSH, WinBatch, SQL and Peregrine's custom languages.

NON-TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work independently and exhibit excellent interpersonal and team skills
  • Provide user training and communicate technical and non-technical information to technical support groups, customer support centers, end-users, senior management and vendors
  • Collaborate with peers across the organization
  • Provide consultation to all stakeholders directly or indirectly affected by the application
  • Manage work queues and track user issues and requests. Complete work queue items according to procedures
  • Develop and document procedures, policies, and best practices. Increase efficiency through implementation of best practices and process automation
  • Plan, coordinate and execute change management processes
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks including; project tasks, deadlines, etc. 
  • Ability to interact with vendors for support and information
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation are necessary.
  • Must be customer service oriented, flexible and adaptable.

PREFERRED YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience as an application administrator.

IDEAL BACKGROUND:

  • 2 years of experience building, deploying, and maintaining highly available solutions.
  • 2 years of experience building reusable services.
  • 2 years of experience with GlobalSCAPE EFT Enterprise
  • 2 years of experience with File transfer protocols (FTP, SFTP/SCP, HTTP, Connect:Direct, SMTP)
  • 2 years of experience with PGP encryption/decryption
  • 2 years of experience with Scripting/development skills (BPML, XML/XPATH, HTML, CSS, Shell Scripts, etc.)
  • 2 years of experience with SQL/Databases (Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL)
