A Figma Developer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative interface design tool, to create, prototype, and refine user interfaces for web and mobile applications. They often bridge the gap between design and development by turning Figma designs into interactive prototypes or production-ready code. Figma Developers work closely with designers and front-end engineers to ensure design consistency and usability across digital products. Their expertise includes working with Figma's features, plugins, and sometimes integrating Figma assets with development workflows.

Is Figma a UI or UX tool?

Figma is a design tool used by Figma Developers to create both user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) designs. It supports collaborative prototyping, wireframing, and visual design, making it suitable for designing the overall look and feel as well as the user flow of digital products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Figma Developer, you need a strong grasp of UI/UX design principles, proficiency in Figma, and a solid understanding of front-end development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and version control platforms such as Git is typically required. Collaboration, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating design concepts into functional, user-friendly interfaces. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent digital products and smooth collaboration between design and development teams.

Is it hard to get hired at Figma?

Figma developers typically need strong skills in UI/UX design, proficiency with Figma software, and a solid understanding of front-end development. The hiring process can be competitive, often involving technical assessments and portfolio reviews, but candidates with relevant experience and skills have good opportunities.

How does a Figma Developer typically collaborate with designers and other team members during a project?

A Figma Developer works closely with designers by translating design prototypes into interactive, production-ready components while ensuring the final product matches the intended user experience. They often participate in design handoff meetings, provide technical feedback, and use Figma's collaborative features to communicate changes and resolve questions in real time. Additionally, they may work alongside front-end developers, product managers, and QA specialists to ensure seamless integration of designs into the development workflow. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to addressing design and technical challenges.

Is UX a difficult job?

Figma Developers often work within UX design, which can be challenging due to the need for creativity, user empathy, and technical skills in tools like Figma. Figma Developer – AI & Automation

We are seeking a Figma Developer with deep expertise in the Figma Plugin API, Generative AI integration, and enterprise creative automation. This role focuses on building intelligent, AI-driven plugins that extend Figma’s capabilities, automate repetitive design workflows, and integrate seamlessly with Adobe, AEM, and GenAI ecosystems to accelerate digital content production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize Figma plugins and widgets using the Figma Plugin API, Widget API, and REST API for advanced design automation and collaboration.
  • Integrate Generative AI capabilities (Adobe Firefly, custom Firefly models, Azure GenAI Studio, OpenAI / Azure OpenAI) for text-to-image generation, layout suggestions, image enhancement, and metadata tagging directly within Figma.
  • Build two-way integrations with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and Creative Cloud APIs for asset synchronization, design publishing, and versioned updates.
  • Implement AI-assisted features such as smart resizing, background removal, color palette generation, and layout adaptation using Firefly, Sensei, and custom-trained AI models.
  • Connect Figma to external APIs (AEM Assets, Photoshop, SharePoint Graph, Azure Blob Storage) for content lifecycle management and automated approvals.
  • Develop secure OAuth 2.0 / JWT-based API integrations and use webhooks for real-time communication with backend systems.
  • Ensure plugin UI/UX excellence with TypeScript + React-based architectures, emphasizing speed, modularity, and maintainability.
  • Apply accessibility best practices to ensure generated assets and design components align with guidelines.

Technical Skill Set

  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js, and modern front-end tooling.
  • Deep experience with Figma Plugin API, Widget API, and Figma REST API (component, frame, asset, and metadata operations).
  • Proficiency in Adobe APIs (Firefly, Photoshop, Express, Creative Cloud Libraries, AEM Assets/Delivery).
  • Experience developing and integrating custom Firefly models and GenAI Studio endpoints for branded or domain-specific creative generation.
  • Working knowledge of Azure Services (Function Apps, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Blob Storage) for workflow automation and content orchestration.
  • Familiarity with computer vision and machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or OpenAI embeddings) for creative intelligence tasks like object detection or image similarity.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, webhooks, authentication flows, and secure API communication.
  • Knowledge of Figma plugin publishing, versioning, and enterprise deployment best practices.
  • Excellent debugging, testing, and performance optimization skills for Figma sandbox environments.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience integrating AI copilots or chat-based assistants inside design tools.
  • Background in design systems, brand governance automation, or creative workflow optimization.
