Figma Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Figma Developer, you need a strong grasp of UI/UX design principles, proficiency in Figma, and a solid understanding of front-end development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and version control platforms such as Git is typically required. Collaboration, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating design concepts into functional, user-friendly interfaces. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent digital products and smooth collaboration between design and development teams.

How does a Figma Developer typically collaborate with designers and other team members during a project?

A Figma Developer works closely with designers by translating design prototypes into interactive, production-ready components while ensuring the final product matches the intended user experience. They often participate in design handoff meetings, provide technical feedback, and use Figma's collaborative features to communicate changes and resolve questions in real time. Additionally, they may work alongside front-end developers, product managers, and QA specialists to ensure seamless integration of designs into the development workflow. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to addressing design and technical challenges.

What is a Figma Developer?

A Figma Developer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative interface design tool, to create, prototype, and refine user interfaces for web and mobile applications. They often bridge the gap between design and development by turning Figma designs into interactive prototypes or production-ready code. Figma Developers work closely with designers and front-end engineers to ensure design consistency and usability across digital products. Their expertise includes working with Figma's features, plugins, and sometimes integrating Figma assets with development workflows.

What is the difference between Figma Developer vs UI Designer?

AspectFigma DeveloperUI Designer
Primary FocusImplementing designs in Figma, creating prototypes, collaborating on design systemsDesigning user interfaces, creating visual layouts, selecting color schemes and typography
Skills & CertificationsProficiency in Figma, basic understanding of front-end code, collaboration skillsDesign tools (Adobe XD, Sketch), visual design skills, user experience knowledge
Work EnvironmentDesign teams, product teams, often in tech or digital agenciesCreative studios, in-house design teams, digital agencies

While both roles work closely on digital product design, a Figma Developer specializes in translating designs into interactive prototypes and collaborating on design systems within Figma, often with some coding knowledge. A UI Designer focuses on creating the visual aspects of interfaces, emphasizing aesthetics and user experience. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers align expectations and skills.

Public Trust Eligibility Required About Aretum Aretum is a mission-driven organization committed to delivering innovative, technology-enabled solutions to our customers across defense, civilian, and homeland security sectors. Our teams work at the intersection of strategy, technology, and transformation, helping agencies solve their most critical challenges. We believe in investing in our people and creating a culture where collaboration, inclusion, and professional growth are at the forefront.

Job Summary Aretum is seeking a skilled Angular Frontend Web Developer to join our team supporting a large-scale federal technology modernization program. In this role, you will build and maintain Angular web applications, implement UI components from a shared Design System, integrate with RESTful backend microservices, and write frontend tests to ensure code quality and reliability. You will translate Figma designs into production code, build responsive and cross-browser interfaces, and collaborate with backend developers, UX designers, and federal product owners within an Agile scrum team.

All frontend code on this program must meet WCAG2.1AA and Section508 accessibility standards, and you will be expected to implement accessible UI patterns as a standard part of your development workflow. Due to the nature of our work as a federal consulting organization, employees may be expected to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must adhere to applicable safeguarding and compliance requirements. Responsibilities Develop Angular components and UI features against sprint commitments, translating Figma designs into clean, maintainable production code using approved Design System components, tokens, and patterns Build and consume RESTful APIs, collaborating with backend developers on data contracts, request/response structures, and integration points to ensure frontend components display data correctly Write frontend tests (component tests, service tests, integration tests) achieving at least 90% branch coverage on all new and modified code Implement accessibility standards in all UI code, including proper ARIA attributes, semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, and color contrast compliance per WCAG2.1AA and Section508 requirements Ensure all new UI code passes automated accessibility checks (aXe, pa11y) in the CI pipeline before merge Contribute to the Design System through the governance process: identify reusable patterns, propose new components, and ensure contributions are documented in Figma and Confluence Build responsive, cross-browser interfaces that work across supported browsers and devices Complete code reviews within 1 business day with substantive feedback focused on code quality, performance, and adherence to coding standards Participate fully in Agile ceremonies within a SAFe framework: Sprint Planning, Daily Standup, Sprint Review, Retrospective, and Backlog Refinement Maintain clean, well-documented TypeScript and Angular code that passes SonarQube quality gates: B+ minimum for bugs and smells, zero critical vulnerabilities Support production triage when assigned, diagnosing frontend issues, implementing fixes, and ensuring all changes follow the standard code review and CI/CD pipeline process Collaborate with UX designers on design feasibility during backlog refinement and provide technical input on story decomposition and estimation Qualifications 5 years of applicable experience in frontend web development Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or 3 years of additional experience) Proficiency in Angular (version 12+), TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3, with hands‐on experience building component‐based single-page applications Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs from frontend applications, including handling asynchronous data flows, error states, and loading patterns Experience implementing designs from Figma or similar design tools, translating visual specifications into pixel‐accurate, production-ready code Experience working with a shared Design System or component library, consuming reusable UI components and following established patterns and tokens Familiarity with WCAG2.1AA accessibility standards and Section508 compliance, with experience implementing basic accessible UI patterns such as semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and keyboard navigation Experience writing frontend unit and integration tests using frameworks such as Jasmine, Karma, or Jest Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred) and understanding of how frontend builds and tests integrate into the deployment workflow Familiarity with code quality tools such as SonarQube, including understanding of branch coverage requirements and quality gate enforcement Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear status updates, collaborate with cross‐functional team members, and document technical decisions Preferred Qualifications Experience with federal government contracts, including compliance with FAR regulations, ATO processes, and working on mission‐critical or regulatory systems Proficiency with Agile project management tools (Jira, Confluence) and experience working in Scrum or SAFe environments with 2 to 3 week sprint cycles Experience with Bootstrap or similar CSS frameworks used alongside a custom Design System Experience with automated accessibility scanning tools such as aXe, pa11y, or WAVE integrated into CI workflows Experience with Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium for end‐to‐end frontend testing Familiarity with responsive design principles and cross‐browser testing across modern browsers and devices Experience contributing to Design System governance, including proposing new components, documenting usage patterns, and coordinating with UX and accessibility teams Background in building applications that integrate with federated identity providers or federal payment systems Certification or coursework in accessibility (IAAP CPACC, WAS) or UX design Travel Requirements This is a remote position; however, occasional travel may be required based on project needs, client meetings, team collaboration events, or training sessions.
