What is it like working on a FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) hospitality roster?

Working in FIFO Hospitality typically means being assigned to a roster where you fly to a remote site for a set period (such as two weeks on, one week off) before returning home. During your work rotation, you will live onsite, providing hospitality services like cleaning, catering, or facilities support to workers and guests, often in mining camps or similar environments. The team environment is supportive but fast-paced, requiring flexibility and a positive attitude. FIFO roles offer the chance to develop specialized skills and progress into leadership positions, but adapting to remote living and maintaining work-life balance can be challenging for some.

Is FIFO a good career?

Fifo Hospitality is a hospitality management company, not a job role. If referring to a career in hospitality, it can be a good option for those interested in customer service, event management, and food service, with opportunities for advancement and skill development. Success in the field often depends on experience, certifications, and interpersonal skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Fifo Hospitality position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a FIFO Hospitality role, you need experience in hospitality services such as food and beverage, housekeeping, or accommodation management, often supported by relevant certificates like RSA or Food Safety. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and compliance with safety and hygiene regulations is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, resilience, and the ability to adapt to remote and dynamic environments make you stand out. These skills are vital to maintain high service standards and ensure the well-being of guests and team members in remote, fly-in fly-out settings.

What is FIFO in the hospitality industry?

FIFO in the hospitality industry refers to the 'First-In, First-Out' inventory management method, where older stock or supplies are used or sold before newer ones to ensure freshness and reduce waste. For hospitality jobs, understanding FIFO is important for maintaining quality standards in food service and inventory control.

Do FIFO workers make good money?

FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) workers often earn higher wages compared to local roles due to the remote and demanding nature of the work, with many positions offering shift allowances and overtime pay. Salaries vary depending on the industry, experience, and location, but skilled FIFO workers in sectors like mining, oil, and gas can earn competitive compensation, sometimes exceeding six figures annually. However, the work schedule typically involves extended periods away from home, which is a consideration for many job seekers.

What is a FIFO Hospitality job?

A FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) Hospitality job involves working in remote locations, such as mining sites or isolated resorts, where employees fly to the job site for a set period before returning home for their scheduled time off. These roles can include chefs, cleaners, kitchen hands, and catering staff. Employers typically provide flights, accommodation, and meals. FIFO hospitality jobs offer competitive salaries but require adaptability to demanding work schedules and extended time away from home.

What is a FIFO job salary?

A FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) hospitality job salary varies depending on the role, location, and experience, but typically includes base pay plus allowances for travel, accommodation, and overtime. Salaries can range from moderate to high, with skilled positions often earning higher wages due to the remote work environment and shift work involved.
