As of Jul 26, 2026, the average hourly pay for fifo hospitality in the United States is $18.82, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.79 and $20.19 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does FIFO mean in hospitality?

In hospitality, FIFO stands for 'First In, First Out,' a method used to manage inventory and food safety by ensuring that older stock is used before newer stock. This practice helps prevent spoilage and maintains quality, and staff often need to be trained in proper stock rotation and storage procedures.

What is it like working on a FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) hospitality roster?

Working in FIFO Hospitality typically means being assigned to a roster where you fly to a remote site for a set period (such as two weeks on, one week off) before returning home. During your work rotation, you will live onsite, providing hospitality services like cleaning, catering, or facilities support to workers and guests, often in mining camps or similar environments. The team environment is supportive but fast-paced, requiring flexibility and a positive attitude. FIFO roles offer the chance to develop specialized skills and progress into leadership positions, but adapting to remote living and maintaining work-life balance can be challenging for some.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Fifo Hospitality position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a FIFO Hospitality role, you need experience in hospitality services such as food and beverage, housekeeping, or accommodation management, often supported by relevant certificates like RSA or Food Safety. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and compliance with safety and hygiene regulations is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, resilience, and the ability to adapt to remote and dynamic environments make you stand out. These skills are vital to maintain high service standards and ensure the well-being of guests and team members in remote, fly-in fly-out settings.

How do you get into FIFO jobs?

To get into FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) jobs, candidates typically need relevant industry experience, such as in mining, construction, or oil and gas, along with necessary certifications like safety or site-specific training. Applying through job boards, recruitment agencies, or company websites is common, and having flexibility with work schedules and remote locations can improve chances.

What is a FIFO Hospitality job?

A FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) Hospitality job involves working in remote locations, such as mining sites or isolated resorts, where employees fly to the job site for a set period before returning home for their scheduled time off. These roles can include chefs, cleaners, kitchen hands, and catering staff. Employers typically provide flights, accommodation, and meals. FIFO hospitality jobs offer competitive salaries but require adaptability to demanding work schedules and extended time away from home.

What is a FIFO job salary?

A FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) hospitality job salary varies depending on the location, role, and experience, but typically includes a base wage plus allowances for travel, accommodation, and shift work. Salaries can range from AUD 70,000 to over AUD 150,000 annually for experienced workers, with additional benefits often provided. These roles often require working long shifts in remote or industrial settings, with pay structures designed to compensate for the remote work environment.
