THE POSITION
The Legal Counsel will be an active member of the Commercial Legal Team working with various Senior Legal Counsels, the Head of Content & Media and the Director of Commercial Legal to
support the delivery of legal services relating to FIFA's global operations.
The role of Legal Counsel will support some, or all, of the business functions within FIFA's global operations, such as the following:
  • Assisting the commercial teams by advising on their everyday operations
  • Assisting in drafting, negotiating and advising on a broad range of commercial and media partnerships matters connected with FIFA's revenue generating activities
  • Providing support regarding the interpretation of a range of media, rights, marketing, IP, retail and licensing, agency appointments, consumer promotions and technology agreements
  • Assisting in providing legal support related to Web3 activities, social media, digital content, gaming and e-sports related matters
  • Providing legal and contractual support to FIFA's strategic and corporate development activities
  • Providing legal and contractual support on the exploitation of commercial opportunities on FIFA's digital platforms
  • Supporting FIFA's subsidiaries, including the FIFA Museum and the FIFA Foundation regarding the exploitation of commercial opportunities within FIFA's commercial framework
  • Providing advice, guidance and support for all legal, regulatory and governance matters relating to FIFA's commercial media activities
  • Providing legal support and counsel on development and production deal structures and documentation for internal and third-party projects, including advising on pre-production and coproduction deals
  • Assisting in managing, developing and maintaining FIFA's portfolio of non-live content related templates
  • Assisting and providing support for the FIFA Technology team in support of the upcoming major FIFA tournaments worldwide
  • Assisting and providing support for the FIFA Innovation team in support of the upcoming major FIFA tournaments worldwide
  • Providing legal support for music related matters (both live and recorded music)
  • Instructing and liaising with external counsel in connection with local law matters in various jurisdictions
  • Developing and maintaining FIFA's template agreements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership is required
  • 4-6 years expertise in an in-house legal department or a top-tier law firm focusing on technology, media, sports or IP matters
  • Native level English (or equivalent), consistent with requirement to draft and negotiate complex and nuanced English language agreements and advice
  • Proficiency in any other FIFA language (French/Spanish/Portuguese) is an asset but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook / Word / PowerPoint / Excel / Teams
  • Comfortable with international travel
