Job description


As a Lead Field Service Technician here at Honeywell, you will specialize in utility meter installations and service within our Industrial Automation Smart Energy business unit. You will be responsible for leading the installation, training, safety, quality, maintenance, and troubleshooting of advanced utility metering systems, ensuring accurate measurement and reliable operation for our energy customers. Your expertise will be key to supporting the deployment of smart energy solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability.
You will report directly to our Field Service Manager, and you'll work out of our Greer, SC location on an On-site work schedule.
In this role, you will impact the accuracy and reliability of utility metering infrastructure, enabling customers to optimize energy usage, improve billing accuracy, and support smart grid initiatives.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and perform installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of utility metering equipment including smart meters and related communication devices.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and experienced field service technicians.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and utility regulations during all installation and service activities.
  • Responsible for leading and administering new hire Operator Qualification training classes and weekly refresher training/learning intervention sessions designed to reduce skill decay, update knowledge, improve confidence, reduce mistakes, increase productivity and maintain competency to ensure the team retains critical details and adapts to procedural changes.
  • Responsible for performing field installations when new hire training classes are not needed.
  • Provides site leadership, other peers, warehouse and field technician planned and unplanned out of office coverage on an as needed basis.
  • Leads & supports end-to-end customer claims process.
  • Performs & documents pre, during, and post-installation quality audits and provides continuous feedback.
  • Supervise an assigned cohort of field technicians.

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Extensive experience in field service with a focus on utility meter installations and smart energy metering systems.
  • Strong knowledge of utility metering technologies, including smart meters, communication modules, and data collection systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software used for utility meter installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and utility standards.

  • Technical certification or degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical teams in utility meter installation and field service roles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in customer environments.
