What is a field research assistant job description?

A field research assistant supports data collection and analysis in outdoor or on-site environments, often assisting with surveys, experiments, or observations. They typically use tools like questionnaires, cameras, or GPS devices and may need to follow safety protocols or obtain relevant certifications. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in various field conditions.

Can I do research with no experience?

Field Research Assistants often start with little or no experience, as on-the-job training and guidance are common. Basic skills in data collection, observation, and communication can be developed through training, and some roles may require familiarity with specific tools or methods. Prior experience is not always necessary for entry-level positions in research environments.

What is a Field Research Assistant job?

A Field Research Assistant supports research projects by collecting data, conducting surveys, and assisting in field experiments. Field Research Assistants typically work under the supervision of senior researchers or scientists.

A Field Research Assistant typically does not earn $10,000 a month without specialized skills or experience. High-paying roles that can reach this level often involve entrepreneurship, sales, real estate, or skilled trades, but these usually require experience, certifications, or a strong network rather than a formal degree. Most entry-level research assistant positions pay significantly less and do not meet this income level without additional responsibilities or bonuses.

Field Research Assistants often work outdoors in a variety of environments, such as forests, wetlands, agricultural sites, or urban areas, depending on the project focus. The job may involve traveling to remote locations, working in different weather conditions, and sometimes performing physically demanding tasks like hiking or carrying equipment. Most positions require working on a team, collaborating closely with lead researchers and other assistants to gather accurate field data. If you enjoy hands-on, dynamic work and being part of scientific investigations outside an office setting, this role offers an exciting and rewarding experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Field Research Assistant position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Field Research Assistant, you must have a solid understanding of data collection techniques, observational skills, and often hold a degree in a relevant scientific field. Familiarity with GPS devices, data entry software, and laboratory equipment may be required, as well as certifications like first aid depending on fieldwork conditions.
