Term: 2-Year Term (Rolling Appointments; per Bylaws §4.03 & §4.05)

Time Commitment: ~3–5 hours per month

About the Fibromyalgia Care Society of America (FCSA)

The Fibromyalgia Care Society of America, Inc. (FCSA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing direct care, structured peer support, and educational services to individuals and families living with fibromyalgia and chronic pain conditions. FCSA focuses on building compassionate, peer-led care systems, reducing systemic medical stigma, and empowering chronic pain patients to lead dignified lives.

Position Summary & Strategic Expansion

FCSA is currently expanding its Board of Trustees from its founding core to a target size of 7 Trustees to support the launch of new community direct-care initiatives. We are appointing qualified candidates on a rolling basis, with an immediate appointment planned for the coming weeks followed by additional seat placements before year-end.

We are specifically seeking candidates with professional backgrounds in one of the following key areas:

  1. Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) & Behavioral Health Professionals
    • Clinical expertise, supportive care framework, mental health integration, or community health perspective to advise on holistic support programs.
  2. Finance & Accounting Professionals
    • CPA, financial advisory, or corporate accounting background to provide high-level board oversight, strategic fiscal planning, and audit committee leadership.
  3. Marketing, PR & Communications Leaders
    • Brand positioning, strategic public relations, digital messaging, and public awareness campaign development.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Governance & Leadership
  • Exercise corporate power and direct the general affairs of the Corporation in accordance with New Jersey law and FCSA Bylaws (§4.02).
  • Provide high-level guidance on organizational vision, long-term strategic plans, and program expansion.
  • Serve actively on assigned Board Committees as designated by the Board (§5.01).
Community Ambassadorship & Network Building
  • Serve as an ambassador for FCSA, elevating awareness of fibromyalgia in professional, clinical, and corporate spaces.
  • Leverage personal and professional networks to open doors for organizational partnerships, strategic resources, and donor connections (§2.02).
  • Attend key organizational events, including annual fundraisers and community celebrations.

(Note: Executive staff and the Executive Director manage day-to-day operations, grant administration, and direct financial management).

Board Expectations & Attendance

  • Meetings: Active participation in regular Board meetings (minimum of 4 regular meetings held annually, plus committee work) (§4.07, §5.01).
  • (Per FCSA Bylaws §4.06, unexcused absence from two or more meetings within a 12-month period is subject to Board review).
  • Term of Office: Trustees serve a 2-year term upon election, with eligibility for re-election (§4.03).
  • Compensation: Trustees serve without financial compensation (§4.09).

Candidate Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (§4.04).
  • Active professional credentials in Social Work (LCSW), Finance/Accounting, or Marketing/PR.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community health, mental health support, or healthcare equity.
  • Integrity, collaborative spirit, and commitment to active participation in governing meetings.
