Leads a team of designers from conception to completion of high-impact initiatives that contribute to the success of FedEx Dataworks. Takes ownership and responsibility over all customer-centered design principles, skills, methods, and technologies. Responsible for advanced expertise of business/product development to lead design project teams through full design activities and all aspects of complex design projects.


Job Description / Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of designers from conception to completion.        
  • Serves as strategic orchestrator that balances design execution, user advocacy and strategic business alignment   
  • Uses experience to define methods, techniques and evaluation criteria.          
  • Works with team to set guidelines, policies and success metrics.          
  • Ability to resolve conflict at the team and project level as it relates to design. 
  • Demonstrates an eagerness to learn and improve constantly as a people manager. Sets the example for their team and encourages growth and improvement through education.   
  • Ability to resolve conflict in a mature and efficient manner.         
  • Develops and provides guidance for direct report(s) to grow in their craft.         
  • Responsible for vetting potential candidates to ensure both a cultural and experience fit. Plays an important role in the hiring process both in and outside of the design org.            
  • Seen as a leader and fosters a psychologically safe environment for direct reports.
  • Partners with Product & Engineer leadership to define product taxonomy, user journeys and strategic roadmaps for complex, multi-faceted product offerings
  • Maintains a high bar for user experience, ensuring solutions are not only visually compelling but solve intricate supply chain, data or orchestration challenges gracefully
  • Establishes scalable processes for design delivery, component libraries and cross-functional handoffs to ensure team operates efficiently
  • Prioritize strategic research initiatives and foster a culture where data and insights drive design decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree/equivalent in Design, Business or related field. Five to eight (5-8) years experience in design, design thinking, or related discipline, related to projects with ambiguous changes and a highly collaborative environment, including clients in an agency environment. Advanced knowledge of leading teams throughout the design process. Advanced human relations and communication skills, including written, verbal, presentation, and digital presentation software. Advanced understanding for user behaviors as it informs design.


Domicile Information:

The preferred location for this hybrid position is Plano, TX or Memphis, TN. However, we will consider candidates based elsewhere within the United States (excluding Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories). Candidates residing within 50 miles of a FedEx campus will be required to work on-site at a FedEx location several times per week. This position may be eligible for relocation.

If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.
