What is Northern Logistics?

Northern Logistics refers to the management and coordination of the movement, storage, and distribution of goods and materials in northern regions. These areas often have unique logistical challenges due to remote locations, extreme weather, and limited infrastructure. Companies specializing in Northern Logistics ensure that supplies, equipment, and products reach their destinations efficiently and safely, supporting industries like mining, energy, and indigenous communities in the north. Effective Northern Logistics is critical for economic development and daily life in these areas.

What are some unique challenges faced by professionals working in Northern Logistics, and how can they prepare for them?

Professionals in Northern Logistics often face challenges related to extreme weather conditions, remote locations, and limited transportation infrastructure. These factors can lead to delays and require creative problem-solving to ensure goods are delivered safely and on time. Success in this role often depends on strong planning skills, adaptability, and effective communication with local teams and partners. Gaining familiarity with regional regulations and building relationships with reliable carriers can also help mitigate common obstacles.

Router Driver / Operations Trainee | Central Texas (Austin)

About Northern Gulf
Northern Gulf is a renewable fuel logistics and distribution company focused on aggregating, transporting, and processing used cooking oil (“UCO”) across the Gulf Coast. We partner with restaurants, institutions, stadiums, and food production facilities to provide reliable, environmentally responsible collection services. As we expand our Central Texas operations, we are building a team that will grow with us.

Position Overview
Northern Gulf is seeking a Route Driver / Operations Trainee to support daily UCO collection routes, bin deliveries, and plant operations in the Central Texas region. This is a hands‑on role with a clear pathway to Operations Manager as the region scales and additional drivers are added.
The ideal candidate is reliable, mechanically inclined, safety‑focused, and eager to grow into a leadership role overseeing routes, drivers, and operational workflows.

Key Responsibilities
Route Operations
  • Operate company truck to collect used cooking oil from customer locations across Central Texas
  • Perform bin deliveries, bin swaps, and equipment placement at customer sites
  • Maintain accurate route logs, collection volumes, and service notes
  • Ensure safe operation of all equipment, including pumps, hoses, and tanks
Operational Support
  • Assist with plant operations including unloading, filtering, and transferring UCO
  • Perform basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Support inventory management for bins, lids, and parts
  • Help refine route efficiency, service standards, and operational processes
Customer Service
  • Represent Northern Gulf professionally at all customer locations
  • Communicate service issues, access challenges, or equipment needs
Leadership & Growth Path
As the region expands, this role will gradually take on:
  • Training and onboarding new drivers
  • Route planning and optimization
  • Oversight of safety procedures and compliance
  • Coordination with the General Manager on operational improvements
  • Acting as point‑of‑contact for driver team and plant operations
Qualifications
Required
  • Valid CDL (Class B minimum)
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs. and work in outdoor environments
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail
Preferred
  • Class A CDL
  • Experience with pump systems, vacuum trucks, grease traps, or liquid hauling
  • Mechanical aptitude (hoses, fittings, pumps, minor repairs)
  • Experience in waste collection, environmental services, or food service logistics
Compensation & Benefits
  • $20 - $25 per hour
  • PTO
  • Medical Benefits
Why This Role Matters
This is the first driver position in a growing region. The person hired will help shape the operational foundation of Northern Gulf’s Central Texas expansion and will be first in line for leadership opportunities as the fleet grows.
