Shipping Assistant & Material Handler
Reports To: Plant Manager
Position Summary
The Shipping & Recieving Assistant position plays a critical support role for the Shipping & Receiving Dept.
Success in this role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, organizational skills, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and able to adapt quickly to changing production priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving
  • Receive incoming shipments from suppliers and customers.
  • Verify received materials against packing slips and purchase orders.
  • Report shortages, discrepancies, or damaged shipments immediately to Purchasing.
  • Palletize and package products securely for shipment using appropriate boxes, pallets, and protective materials. Some products need to be custom palletized which you will be trained to do.
  • Prepare and ship customer orders using approved shipping methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Operate material handling equipment safely, including forklifts (forklift certification preferred; training provided if needed).
  • Make pickups and deliveries to local suppliers and customers using a company vehicle as required.
General Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices at all times.
  • Manage multiple requests and changing priorities throughout the workday.
  • Communicate issues or concerns promptly with the Machine Shop Supervisor.
  • Work collaboratively with machinists, production personnel, and other departments.
  • Perform any additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Previous manufacturing, machining, warehouse, or material handling experience preferred. Training available for the right person.
  • Forklift certification preferred (training available if needed).
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with UPS/FedEx shipping software is a plus but will train right person.
