Job description

The Design Project Manager will oversee the development and delivery of project design deliverables through the means of both internal deign resources and external design partners. This role requires a dynamic individual with a keen eye for detail and a strong ability to manage multidisciplinary teams. The Design Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that design efforts are completed on time, within scope, and on budget, while maintaining the highest quality standards and adherence to the owner’s program requirements. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders on design and engineering related matters, providing regular updates and addressing any concerns promptly.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assess the client’s needs and expectations. Develop strategies to best provide the customer’s design needs.
  • Identify and deploy the appropriate design resources to execute design deliverables. This may be achieved through in-house design resources or through strategic partnership with outsourced design professionals.
  • Establish expectations and key milestone dates for the project design lifecycle and communicate those to internal & external team members. Maintain accountability for adherence to expectations and deliverable milestones.
  • Review design deliverables for conformance to applicable building codes, standards, owner program requirements, budget assumptions, etc.
  • Work in conjunction with BIM/VDC and construction project management staff to integrate 3D design practices on projects.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams, ensuring collaboration and communication are effective. Drive quality control measures through interdisciplinary coordination (i.e.civil, structural, architectural, MEP, geotechnical).
  • Support the establishment of a design project budget and lead efforts to maintain budget parameters.
  • Solicit proposals for outsourced design services. Issue necessary contracts as required to procure design services for the project.
  • Support and facilitate construction administration services on active projects. This includes review and processing of submittals and RFIs as well as necessary drawing revisions.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate regularly scheduled client meetings such as; design charettes, construction progress meetings, stakeholder meetings, etc.Participate in design build and CM at Risk proposal efforts to develop design and construction solutions that ultimately win best value, qualifications-based pursuits.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Astute understanding of building design and engineering.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to lead and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients, stakeholders, and team members
  • Proficient in project management software and tools
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems with innovative solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and timelines
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design or construction project management, industry
  • Experience leading design teams comprised of multiple design disciplines.
  • Experience managing an overall project budget for design services.
  • Experience analyzing and allocating resources for maximum efficiency and customer service.Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and software
  • Experience facilitating and leading design meetings with both downstream designers as well as clients and owners.
  • Familiarity with design software such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit, or similar.
Travel Requirements:
  • Flexibility to travel on short notice for urgent business needs, to attend meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance during business trips.
  • Compliance with company travel policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer, phone, printer, scanner, and other office equipment.
  • Visual acuity for detailed work and computer use
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds of files, documents, and materials.
