Position Overview

The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) is a key member of the store leadership team and serves as the Store Manager's primary partner in driving sales, developing team members, and executing daily operations. This role is responsible for helping create an exceptional customer experience while ensuring operational excellence and maintaining the standards that define the FEATURE brand.

The ASM plays an active leadership role in coaching employees, driving business results, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supporting all aspects of store operations. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager assumes responsibility for leading the business, making sound operational decisions, and ensuring the store continues to operate efficiently while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Store Manager plays a vital role in supporting the Store Manager and driving the overall success of the store through leadership, operational excellence, sales performance, and team development.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) when assigned and confidently lead the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Lead by example while promoting FEATURE's "All Things Good" customer experience.
  • Coach, motivate, and develop team members through ongoing feedback, training, and performance coaching.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training new employees.
  • Identify and develop future leaders while promoting employee growth and engagement.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively to ensure operational excellence.
  • Hold team members accountable to company policies, procedures, and performance expectations.

Sales & Client Experience

  • Drive achievement of daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales goals.
  • Monitor and coach performance around key retail metrics, including:
    • Conversion
    • Units Per Transaction (UPT)
    • Average Transaction Value (ATV)
    • Average Unit Retail (AUR)
    • Cross-Sell Percentage
  • Lead by example through exceptional customer engagement and selling behaviors.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through clienteling initiatives.
  • Encourage repeat business by delivering memorable customer experiences.
  • Analyze sales trends and partner with the Store Manager to implement action plans that improve business performance.

Operations & Store Execution

  • Ensure all opening, closing, daily, weekly, and monthly operational procedures are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Oversee shipment processing, inventory movement, transfers, order fulfillment, and client invoicing.
  • Ensure company systems, including Shopify, Deposco, Asana, and other operational platforms, are utilized accurately and consistently.
  • Support execution of company initiatives, product launches, store events, marketing campaigns, and operational improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, safety standards, and operational expectations.

Inventory & Product Management

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels based on customer demand, traffic, trends, and business needs.
  • Monitor product sell-through and identify opportunities for replenishment, transfers, merchandising, and inventory optimization.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and operational controls.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies promptly.
  • Monitor inventory shrink and support loss prevention initiatives.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and efficient stockroom operations.

Store Standards

  • Maintain exceptional visual merchandising standards throughout the store.
  • Ensure the sales floor and stockroom remain clean, organized, and customer-ready.
  • Uphold company dress code, presentation, and brand standards.
  • Maintain a premium shopping environment that reflects the FEATURE brand and enhances the customer experience.

Communication & Business Partnership

  • Communicate store performance, operational updates, staffing concerns, and business opportunities to the Store Manager.
  • Complete required reports, audits, operational logs, and documentation accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to support company initiatives.
  • Assist the Store Manager in developing action plans that support sales growth, operational consistency, and team performance.

Financial Performance

  • Support the achievement of store sales and financial goals through strong operational execution.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities to improve business performance.
  • Assist with expense management and operational efficiencies while maintaining company standards.
  • Review store performance metrics and contribute recommendations that drive continuous improvement.

Project Management & Problem Resolution

  • Support store projects and special initiatives, including product launches, marketing campaigns, store events, and operational improvements.
  • Resolve escalated customer concerns professionally while maintaining FEATURE's commitment to exceptional service.
  • Address employee concerns appropriately and partner with the Store Manager on performance or operational matters when necessary.
  • Exercise sound judgment and make timely business decisions that support company objectives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting additional projects, initiatives, and responsibilities as reasonably assigned to meet evolving business and operational needs.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the scope and responsibility of this position as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive retail leadership experience.
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Manager, Department Manager, or similar leadership role preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business performance and make sound operational decisions.
  • Experience with retail POS, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.
