POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Asset Management Property Operations Department is responsible for protecting and enhancing the value of City-owned real estate assets and serving the operational needs of tenant businesses. In addition, the Department assists EDC in the allocation of resources among its properties.

Your Role: The Senior Facilities Engineer supports the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and performance of building systems across a multi-building campus. This role serves as a key technical resource, focusing on hands-on troubleshooting, system reliability, vendor coordination, and support of capital projects. The position works closely with internal teams, contractors, and external partners to help maintain safe, efficient, and compliant facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Building Systems Operations & Technical Support
    • Perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems (BAS).
    • Diagnose system issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive solutions.
    • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
    • Support the implementation and use of CMMS and BAS platforms for tracking and optimization.
  • Facilities Operations
    • Support daily facilities operations across multiple buildings to help ensure continuity of services.
    • Conduct routine inspections of mechanical rooms, rooftops, and infrastructure to assess condition and identify maintenance needs.
    • Participate in on-call rotations and assist with emergency response and after-hours maintenance as needed.
  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination
    • Coordinate with third-party vendors and contractors performing maintenance, repair, and specialty services.
    • Assist in reviewing scopes of work and proposals to ensure alignment with operational needs.
    • Monitor vendor activities on-site to ensure work is completed safely and effectively.
  • Capital Projects Support
    • Support capital improvement projects, system upgrades, and infrastructure repairs.
    • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure projects are executed with minimal operational disruption.
    • Assist with site assessments, project walkthroughs, and closeout documentation.
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Support compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations (including NYC DOB, FDNY, OSHA, and EPA requirements).
    • Assist with inspections, testing, and documentation related to fire/life safety systems.
    • Identify potential safety risks and report findings to management with recommended actions.
  • Sustainability & System Efficiency
    • Assist with energy management and sustainability initiatives.
    • Support data collection and reporting related to energy usage and system performance.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Stakeholder & Tenant Engagement
    • Serve as a technical point of contact for internal stakeholders and tenants regarding building systems.
    • Communicate maintenance activities and technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
    • Support a positive tenant and occupant experience through responsive service.
  • Snow Removal
    • During snow events that require removal duties, coordinate with a team to plan removal duties and contractors to ensure coverage.
  • Duty Station and Site Reporting
    • This is an onsite position that requires a 5-day presence at Sunset Park Campus. The work schedule may include weekend coverage and is subject to manager approval/consideration.

Certifications:

Ongoing development: While not required at the time of hire, the following certifications (not limited to) are encouraged and can be obtained during employment:

  • OSHA 30 Hour
  • FDNY S12 Supervision of Sprinkler Systems (Citywide)
  • FDNY S13 Supervision of Standpipe Systems (Citywide)
  • FDNY S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems
  • Backhoes/heavy equipment training (Dump Truck/front-end loader/skid steer/backhoe)
  • NYS CDL Driver license
  • NYS Driver license Class D (required)

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Facilities, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in facilities engineering, building operations, or infrastructure management.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS), CMMS, and system integration.
  • Solid troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors, contractors, or consultants to support maintenance and repair activities.
  • Understanding of NYC building codes, regulatory agencies, and inspection processes.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and contribute to safe, compliant, and efficient facility operations.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability, energy benchmarking, and resiliency planning.
Salary Range
$84,000—$86,000 USD
