What is an FDNY mechanic?

FDNY mechanics are skilled technicians responsible for maintaining, repairing, and inspecting the vehicles and equipment used by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). Their work ensures that fire trucks, ambulances, and specialized apparatus are always in optimal working condition to support emergency response operations. FDNY mechanics perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and respond to breakdowns, often under time-sensitive conditions.
