The Structural/Architectural Building Assessor conducts on-site assessments of architectural and structural building components for large FCA portfolios. This role documents deficiencies, supports repair/replacement recommendations, and completes data entry and reporting following fieldwork. The position is ideal for professionals seeking hourly, flexible, travel-based assessment work in support of high-volume programs.

In the capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Identify deficiencies, deterioration, and functional issues; capture clear field notes and photo documentation as required.
  • Apply standardized inventory and condition assessment concepts used in FCA programs (e.g., system/component categorization aligned with common industry frameworks such as UNIFORMAT/ASTM-based approaches).

Data capture, QA/QC, and reporting support

  • Use mobile devices/tablets and established data platforms to capture inventory and condition data efficiently
  • Perform quality checks of collected data to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency prior to submission
  • Support development of repair/replacement scopes and cost opinions consistent with the program methodology.
  • Complete post-field remote data entry and clarifications during the reporting week(s) following travel.

Travel & logistics

  • Participating in a travel cadence typically consists of one week of fieldwork (often flying out Sunday and returning Friday) followed by remote documentation/data entry, with occasional longer trips for remote sites (e.g., territories/remote locations).
  • Follow all travel authorization and expense reporting requirements, coordinate bookings per program guidance.
  • Adhere to safety expectations and site access requirements (including installation protocols).

What you will bring to our firm:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in building assessments, facility inspections, architecture, building science, construction, structural assessment, or related fields.
  • Ability to evaluate building components in the field and document findings clearly and consistently.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with mobile data collection and basic digital reporting workflows.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for week-long site visits.
  • Hourly/as-needed staffing structure supported; ability to accommodate part-time schedules and experienced/semi-retired professionals.
  • Ability to accommodate part-time schedules and experienced/semi-retired professionals.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Professional licensure or progress toward licensure (RA, PE, SE) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Prior or large-portfolio FCA experience.
  • Familiarity with FCA methodologies, including component categorization (e.g., UNIFORMAT), ASTM E1557 concepts, and Facility Condition Index (FCI) inputs/outputs.
  • Experience developing repair recommendations and order-of-magnitude cost opinions.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $52.00-$58.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
