Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic - Ft. Pierce, FL.
FAU Harbor Branch, located in Ft. Pierce, is a research institute focusing on marine science and oceanography with over 200 scientists, staff and students that work and study at the site.
In this hands-on role, you will support the upkeep and repair of campus facilities, systems, and equipment-ranging from plumbing and HVAC to electrical and general maintenance. You'll perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, operate machinery, and contribute to a safe, clean environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring reliable campus operations and requires flexibility to respond to emergencies, including hurricane preparedness.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Maintains and repairs physical structures, systems, or equipment.
  • Installs and maintains fixtures, equipment, pipes (plumbing), and machinery.
  • Assists in design or construction of systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, irrigation and plumbing.
  • Performs and keeps records of preventive maintenance activities per schedule.
  • Performs routine activities including, but not limited to, changing filters, changing light bulbs, painting, moving furniture, and equipment.
  • Operates equipment and machinery such as forklift and backhoe.
  • Aids in maintaining a safe and clean workplace in compliance with Harbor Branch safety program.
  • Uses hand and power tools.
  • Performs in emergency situations (e.g., hurricane preparations and emergency call-in).
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for vehicle maintenance and minor repair.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma and four years appropriate experience required. Vocational/technical training may substitute for experience.
Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat and other weather conditions, with or without shelter from the elements, is required.
A valid Florida driver's license is required, or candidates must be able to obtain one within two (2) weeks of hire.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and external vendors.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed to support departmental operations.
Availability to participate in a scheduled on-call and weekend rotation.
Salary:
$20.00 - $22.00 per hour.
