How does a Fashion Textile Designer typically collaborate with other departments during the development of a new collection?

Fashion Textile Designers frequently work closely with fashion designers, product developers, and production teams to ensure their fabric concepts align with the overall vision of the collection. They often engage in regular meetings to discuss color palettes, fabric textures, and print techniques, as well as to troubleshoot any technical challenges. What is fashion textile design?

Fashion textile design is the art and process of creating patterns, prints, and structures for fabrics used in clothing and fashion accessories. Textile designers use creativity and technical knowledge to develop innovative fabrics that meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. They often work with various materials, colors, and digital tools to produce unique and marketable textiles for the fashion industry. This field combines elements of art, design, and material science to create fabrics that enhance the appeal and performance of fashion products.

To thrive as a Fashion Textile Designer, you need expertise in textile techniques, color theory, fabric manipulation, and a relevant degree such as fashion design or textile design. Job description

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Director of Product Design to lead the design and development of all product that carries the Lola Blankets name. Partnering closely with the founders and cross-functional leadership, this person will be responsible for the design and product development function end-to-end - from raw material sourcing and color & print direction of mainline and collaboration capsules, to net-new product categories and styles. This role will be crucial in driving development timelines to bring it all to market. The role is equal parts visionary and operator: a taste-maker with a point of view, and a builder who can run a calendar.

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead the multi-year creative vision for Lola Blankets across core assortment, seasonal collections, and limited-edition collaboration capsules, in lockstep with the brand's strategic growth initiatives and long-range roadmap.
  • Manage the Design and PD team to drive end-to-end design and product development: concept, material innovation, color & print, prototyping, sampling, tech packs, and hand-off to production.
  • Own sourcing strategy for new raw materials - identifying and evaluating the supply chain that meet Lola's standards for hand, quality, and design.
  • Manage the seasonal product calendar, setting clear milestones and accountability across design, development, merchandise planning, and marketing.
  • Direct color, print, and pattern development, ensuring each release feels distinctly Lola - editorial, fashion-forward, and built to be covetable.
  • Partner with the founders and brand leadership on ideation and execution of collaborations with designers, artists, and cultural brands.
  • Recruit, mentor, and scale a high-performing design and product development team, shaping structure, process, and creative culture.
  • Partner with marketing, ecommerce, wholesale, and retail to translate the product vision into commercially resonant assortments across DTC and multi-channel surfaces.
  • Champion quality, fit, and finish standards across categories - from blankets and throws to pillows, to apparel and adjacent accessories, and beyond.
  • Keep a finger on the cultural pulse: fashion, interiors, art, and beauty. Translate trends into a Lola lens rather than chasing them.
  • Based full-time in New York City, working in-person from the Lola Blankets office.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed - mills, factories, trade shows, and partner meetings.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience managing design, color & print, and product development teams.
  • Proven track record at multi-channel, multi-category brands, with a strong emphasis on DTC.
  • Deep expertise in textiles, materials, and soft goods development; faux fur and home or fashion textile experience is a significant plus.
  • Demonstrated success building seasonal calendars and managing development timelines across multiple concurrent initiatives, including collaboration capsules.
  • Established sourcing network and a point of view on what differentiates best-in-class mills and material partners.
  • A distinctive eye - someone whose portfolio feels premium, editorial, and contemporary, with an instinct for the line between fashion-forward and commercial.
  • Fluent in the language of merchandising and operations; able to balance creative ambition with commercial discipline.
  • Exceptional leader and communicator who can attract top talent, develop direct reports, and influence across the org.

Degree in design, textiles, fashion, or related field preferred.

What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, PTO)
  • 401K with company match
  • Flexible remote work environment
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • An opportunity to make a direct impact on a high-growth, design-forward brand
  • A collaborative, passionate, and purpose-driven team
Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to shape the product identity of a brand at an inflection point - a creative leadership seat with real ownership, real resources, and the space to build something category-defining. If you believe softness can be a statement and that the most interesting brand in home textiles hasn't been built yet, we'd love to meet you.
