Summary

Perdue is hiring an Assistant Farm Manager for the Monarch Farm located in Savonburg, KS.  The AssistantFarm Manager will oversee and manage all areas of gestation and breeding including the electronic sow feeding system and all associated paperwork, records, and correspondence.  In addition, they will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the associated Gilt Isolation Unit.  They will ensure that all animals across the farms have received proper feed, water, ventilation and bedding on a daily basis/assisting with all other aspects of the farm to ensure farm goals are met and tasks are completed on a daily basis.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure synchronization of gilts and sows to meet weekly breeding target
  • Manage quantity and quality of semen
  • Accurate and daily reporting of all breeding records, ultrasounds, and animal movement
  • Managing sow vaccinations (pre-farrowing, pre-breeding)
  • Treating sick animals on a timely as needed basis, recording, and managing withdraw periods
  • Complete ultrasounds at 28-day and 56-day post service, accurately recording and reporting
  • Ensure all animal pens and handling facilities are in good working order, and routinely cleaned
  • Responsible for accurate information in the NEDAP Electronic Sow Feeding system, including but not limited to: Location, Start Service Date, Feed Curves, BCS, Heat Check Recordings, etc.
  • Review and document all non-fed ESF events and associated reasons
  • Maintain and ensure immediate reporting of any equipment malfunction
Additional Responsibilities
  • Calibration and associated recording of ESF system no less than quarterly
  • Oversee all operations at the Isolation Unit including biosecurity, incoming arrivals, daily management, diagnostics, movement schedules, etc.
  • Oversee training of new gilts into the ESF system
  • Oversee and manage integration of new animals into dynamic and static pens
  • Ensure proper feed, water, ventilation, and bedding of boars across the farm
  • Proper cleaning and maintenance in and around the ESF stations, gates, and feed deck
  • Organize and arrange transportation for cull truck
  • Assist in Period Close inventory, cost analysis, and cost control
  • Any other duties as assigned, requested, or directed by management/supervisor
Minimum Education
  • High Sschool or GED Diploma required.
Experience Requirements
  • 1 + years of Farm Supervisory experience (must have managed a team of at least 2 people).
  • Ability to lead by example.
  • Ability to problem solve, be a critical thinker, goal oriented, and a team player.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
  • May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
  • May need to access files, supplies and equipment.

When in plant environment:

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
  • May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to all chemicals used in pork, food, processing facility.
  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Bending, twisting, lifting, reaching, sitting and grasping varies in repetitions, distances, degrees, angle weights, height, intervals of time, object grasped and body positions depending upon the task being performed.
