Job description

Cavendish Farms is seeking a Health, Safety and Environment Specialist to support and strengthen safety performance at our processing facilities. This role plays a key part in developing standardized health and safety programs, designing and delivering effective training, and ensuring consistency across multiple sites. The Specialist will act as a subject matter expert (SME), working closely with site leadership to drive compliance, reduce risk, and build a strong, proactive safety culture.

Work Location: Flexible - Lethbridge, AB or Jamestown, ND. 

Position Type: Full-time, salaried

      • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, training, or a related field (preferred) 
      • 5-10 years of experience in health and safety within manufacturing, food processing, or agriculture
      • Experience designing and delivering training programs in an operational environment
      • Professional certification such as CRST, CRSP, NCSO, or NEBOSH 
      • Strong knowledge of occupational health & safety legislation and compliance requirements
      • Ability to analyze safety data and translate insights into practical training solutions
      • Proven communication, coaching, and collaboration skills
      • Build, standardize, and implement health and safety programs across all processing sites, ensuring consistent application of company policies and procedures
      • Design and deliver engaging safety training programs using adult learning principles, including competency validation and tracking of training completion
      • Monitor and report on training compliance, participation, and effectiveness across the site
      • Maintain and manage training requirements based on roles, regulatory standards, and operational needs
      • Analyze KPIs, safety metrics, and trends (including incidents and hazard identifications) to identify gaps and drive continuous improvement initiatives
      • Perform audits and champion key system elements (KC audits), ensuring data integrity and program compliance across sites
      • Identify and reduce data gaps by reviewing safety systems, reports, and metrics, ensuring accurate and consistent reporting
      • Review incident investigations and corrective actions to identify root causes, trends, and opportunities to strengthen safety programs
      • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in health and safety, coaching and mentoring site teams to build capability and reinforce standards
      • Provide field support and guidance to ensure sites are aligned with corporate expectations and following standardized safety practices
