How much do farm dog jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 31, 2026, the average hourly pay for farm dog in the United States is $18.55, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $19.23 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are farm dogs and what do they do?

Farm dogs are specially trained or naturally skilled dogs that assist with various tasks on farms and ranches. Their main duties often include herding livestock, guarding animals and property, and helping with pest control. Farm dogs can be different breeds, but they are typically chosen for their intelligence, trainability, and work ethic. They play a vital role in helping farmers manage animals efficiently and keep the farm running smoothly. Their presence can also improve security and reduce the workload for farm owners.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Farm dogs typically do not earn $4,000 a week; high-paying jobs without a degree often include roles such as commercial pilots, real estate brokers, or sales managers, which may require experience, licensing, or certifications. These positions usually involve specialized skills, significant responsibility, or sales targets. Earnings vary based on location, experience, and industry, but reaching $4,000 weekly is more common in sales, skilled trades, or entrepreneurial roles rather than farm work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Farm Dog, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Farm Dog, essential qualities include obedience, herding instincts, stamina, and basic training, often supported by breed-specific traits favorable for farm work. Familiarity with commands, agility for navigating varied terrain, and sometimes participation in herding or obedience certification programs are typical. Alertness, loyalty, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team make a farm dog stand out. These skills are crucial for ensuring livestock are managed safely and efficiently, protecting property, and supporting the overall productivity of the farm.

What is the 7 7 7 rule for dogs?

The 7 7 7 rule for dogs is a guideline suggesting that dogs should be fed three times a day, with approximately 7 ounces of food per meal for small to medium breeds, and that they should be walked at least three times daily for about 7 minutes each time. For farm dogs, maintaining a consistent schedule and providing adequate exercise and nutrition is essential for their health and work performance.

What are some typical daily responsibilities for a farm dog and how do they work alongside farm workers?

Farm dogs play a vital role in supporting farm operations by herding livestock, guarding property, and sometimes assisting with basic tasks like moving equipment. Their day often starts early, accompanying farmers to the fields or pastures where they help guide animals between enclosures or keep flocks safe from predators. Farm dogs work closely with farm workers, responding to commands and cues, and developing strong bonds that enhance teamwork and efficiency. Training and consistency are key, so farm dogs often participate in regular practice to maintain their skills and adapt to the unique needs of each farm.

What is the highest paid job working with dogs?

The highest paid jobs working with dogs typically include professional dog trainers, veterinary surgeons, and animal behavior specialists, with veterinary surgeons earning the most, often exceeding six figures annually. These roles require specialized training, certifications, and experience, and often involve working in clinics, hospitals, or private practices.

Job description

The Farmer's Dog Veterinary Student Ambassador Program
About The Farmer's Dog:
The Farmer's Dog (TFD) is on a mission to make dogs healthier and happier by feeding them freshly prepared food, designed for long term health. Formulated by boarded veterinary nutritionists from day one, we value the veterinary profession and seek to partner with the veterinary community to advance the conversation around evidence-based nutrition and elevate the standard of care for pets everywhere.
Student Ambassador Program Overview:
The Farmer's Dog is seeking motivated first-, second-, or third-year veterinary students to serve as Student Ambassadors.
The Farmer's Dog Student Ambassador Program offers second-or-third year veterinary students enrolled in AVMA -accredited veterinary programs the opportunity to build leadership skills, connect with industry experts, and represent TFD within their academic communities. Ambassadors participate in on-campus activities within their respective academic communities, support education around evidence-based nutrition, and provide feedback that help inform TFD's initiatives.
In this role, students act as peer leaders and mentors, serving as a trusted resource for classmates about TFD products and services while advancing pet care through thoughtful conversations about canine nutrition.
How You'll Be Making an Impact
  • Act as a mentor and peer resource to your student community by representing TFD professionally and in alignment with TFD's mission and values.
  • Identify and participate in campus events, student organization meetings, and informational discussions related to veterinary nutrition.
  • Organize or assist with on-campus educational events in consultation with TFD.
  • Share non-confidential feedback and insights from your student community to help TFD support the next generation of veterinarians.

What makes you a great fit?
  • Second or third year veterinary student in good academic standing.
  • Currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary program.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative through student organizations or professional roles.
  • A proactive, self-starter, who is capable of working independently with limited supervision.
  • Enthusiasm for veterinary nutrition and advancing pet health.
  • Ability to commit to the position for one school year, with an option to renew.

What We Offer:
  • $1,000 flat-rate payment per semester
  • Leadership opportunities and career development support from TFD veterinarians and industry leaders.
  • Potential optional opportunities for travel to conferences, or other TFD held events.
  • A discounted TFD subscription rate while serving as Ambassador

The Farmer's Dog is proud to foster an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative environment for all students and veterinary professionals. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds who share our commitment to advancing pet health through nutrition.
This is a 1099 independent contractor role and not a position for full- or part-time employment. Student ambassadors will have the flexibility to manage their schedules and workload.
Our Belonging Philosophy:
At TFD, we believe Belonging is a shared commitment to creating a workplace where every person feels respected, valued, and empowered to be themselves. When people feel a true sense of belonging, they do their best work, take smart risks, and bring forward diverse perspectives - leading to stronger decisions and deeper relationships. We anchor this belief in a simple phrase: "Everyone's welcome at the dog park." No matter your background, identity, or role, there's space for you here. There's no one way to show up at the dog park- just shared space, mutual respect, and the freedom to be yourself. Being included is just the beginning, it's about contributing your voice, growing through challenges, and building trust through shared goals. This philosophy guides how we lead, how we hire, how we communicate, and how we grow.
We continuously evaluate to ensure we are creating a consistent experience that cultivates belonging for all employees, from hiring and performance reviews to talent development. We also believe Belonging happens in everyday moments of connection; lunch with a new teammate, a shared laugh, or a quick story about your weekend. Our structure includes biannual employee surveys, manager training, TFD camps, and support from Humans to ensure we're listening and learning from our Team.
Together, these efforts reflect what Belonging means at TFD: a culture where everyone can thrive.
