Job description

Job Summary: The Child Life Specialist Fellow (CLSF) participates in a specialized Donor Funded one-year educational fellowship program. The CLSF collaborates with the healthcare team to facilitate activities consistent with patients' age-specific (neonate, infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, young adult) developmental needs. Works with pediatric patients and families to help them cope with hospitalization, procedures, surgeries, and grief through therapeutic play, education, and other interventions. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse internal and external workforce and patient population. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Master of Science in Child Life required. Minimum 600 hours of Child Life internship under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Basic life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required. Child Life Certification eligible (letter of completion of internship) required.
