Job description

Job Summary

VIZ Media, the world leader in English-language manga, is seeking an Editorial Intern. Come join a team of dedicated storytellers and artists and learn how we publish your favorite manga! The Editorial Intern will assist VIZ Media's Editorial Department, which edits and produces all of VIZ Media's graphic novels and tradebooks. The ideal candidate has prior writing/editing experience and an interest in a career in writing or editing. 

What you'll do:

  • Copyedit manga proofs and scripts as a second reader
  • Conduct assigned editorial research
  • Create series style guides
  • Check printed books
  • Perform data entry and copying
  • Assist with packaging and shipping
  • Provide general Editorial support, including: creating PDFs, photocopying, filing, etc.
  • Create articles and reviews for Shonen Jump

In addition to these responsibilities, perform other activities as assigned

The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong command of English grammar and spelling (proofing/copy editing skills preferred)
  • Experience/Interest in media publishing, comics industry, and writing
  • General knowledge of manga/anime is preferred, but extensive knowledge is not needed
  • Japanese reading/writing ability is preferred but not required
  • Computer literacy (Mac systems preferred). Must have basic office computer skills, including using spreadsheets and databases, word processing, web browsing, etc.

All Interns Must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or graduate school program, OR have graduated within one year of the start of the internship
  • Be able to commute to our San Francisco office (94103)
  • Be legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of the start of the internship

Work Environment and Schedule:

Location: The Editorial Intern must be local to the San Francisco Bay Area and able to commute to our San Francisco office (94103)

Schedule: The Fall internship will run for approximately 6 months, from July through December (with start/end dates flexible depending on the school schedule). The Editorial Intern must be available to work at least 3 days per week between the hours of 10:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays, to a max of 24 hours/week. 

Compensation: This position will be compensated at a rate of $19.61/hour
