Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented individual to fill the role of Facilities Manager for our Syracuse, NY area operations. You will have an opportunity to join a team that develops, designs, and manufactures advanced radar and surveillance systems for DoD and international customers. This position is eligible for Saab, Inc.'s relocation package.


Syracuse Operations consist of several facilities including our US Headquarters, manufacturing, and test facilities. The Facilities Manager reports to the Director of Facilities and is responsible for managing all facilities activities at the various locations. You will be responsible for managing a team of facilities technicians supporting office and manufacturing operations, including operational and capital financial controls, environmental, health, and safety (EHS), site maintenance, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, this position integrates activities with enterprise service organizations (IT, Security, Environmental, Health & Safety, Corporate Communications, Human Resources and Supply Chain) through collaboration by establishing priorities and effectively planning, scheduling, and coordinating service deliverables. As Saab expands its operations in Syracuse, NY, the Facilities Manager will also support current facilities and future capacity growth.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead large facility project planning and development activities including coordinating with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings and specifications.

  • Develop and monitor complex plans and schedules for facility projects for entire site.

  • Develop/analyze bids for facilities related purchases of goods and services.

  • Establish and maintain the Facilities Operational and Capital Budgets, including long-range forecasts.

  • Provide value engineering expertise overseeing the coordination of the building space allocation, layout, communication services, security, and plans for future expansion/occupancy.

  • Monitors customer regulations, along with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances to determine impact on Saab, Inc.; develops and adapts internal operating practices accordingly.

  • Develop policies and procedures for business continuity planning, operational procedures, maintenance of facilities and equipment, and ensure the safety and security of all personnel through standards development.

  • Attract, inspire, mentor, and retain the facilities staff necessary to achieve strategic business objectives and operating goals. This includes coordinating personnel needs with local management relative to the overall needs and budget for the site.

  • Communicate with other facilities leaders and business units in the United States and Sweden to report site progress, support business objectives, implement best practices, and develop future strategies.

  • Manage key facility service and materials vendor / supplier relationships

  • Drive performance to reach Saab, Inc.'s safety, operational uptime, and budget goals.

Compensation Range: $132,000 - $171,600

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience) with 10+ years of progressive leadership experience with large-scale construction, facilities management and operations.

  • Expert knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements related to facilities design and maintenance management.

  • New and existing facility construction experience with the ability to adapt and respond quickly to required changes.

  • Forecast resource requirements (people, money & assets) to meet business objectives.

  • Ability to contribute to the development of site strategy and lead strategic initiatives in support of functional and business objectives. Works well in a team environment.

  • Measure team and process performance through the definition and use of appropriate metrics.

  • Excellent communication and team building experience working in an international environment.

  • Willingness to travel up to 5% in support facility and corporate activities.

  • Experience working in a matrix organization.

  • Able to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.


Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Experience in radar and surveillance industries

  • Experience with clean room design and maintenance

  • Working knowledge of DoD acquisition process and facility requirements.

  • Experience with ERP, facility, and asset management systems.

  • MBA, PE, M.Sc. or equivalent documented education.
