Job description

SUMMARY

Banterra Bank is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student intern to support our Facilities Management team. This role provides hands-on experience in managing and maintaining a multi-location portfolio of bank facilities across Southern Illinois and surrounding regions.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proficient in Microsoft Excel, and comfortable balancing both administrative and light, hands-on facilities tasks. This position offers exposure to real-world facilities operations, including data collection and analysis, project coordination, facility assessments, and support for space planning and design initiatives.

Training is conducted within a mentorship framework, necessitating frequent interaction with various departments and travel to multiple area branch locations. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students in areas of study such as Construction Management, Architectural Studies, Interior Design, Business Analytics and/or Management, Engineering Technology, and other related disciplines who are interested in space planning, layout design, and workforce optimization.

This is a paid internship and part-time role (approximately 30 hours per week) with flexible scheduling to accommodate class schedules.

All employees are expected to protect the information and assets of the organization through heightened awareness of information security, cybersecurity, and risk management best practices, as well as complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Shadow and gain an understanding of facilities operations and management at various levels of the organization.
  • Contribute to multiple special projects, providing strong research, attending and participating in meetings and project tracking, and reporting ongoing progress to the Senior Administrative Officer.
  • Help organize records, track requests, and maintain facility-related data in Excel and other systems
  • Organize and analyze data related to maintenance requests, projects, and vendor activities
  • Assist in coordinating facilities-related projects across branch and office locations
    • Conduct structured assessments of branch locations to build a centralized facilities database, including exterior and interior element
    • Help create and maintain a centralized inventory of facility assets and property characteristics to support faster decision-making and vendor coordination
  • Compile and document key historical data for each location
  • Assist with basic on-site tasks and/or observations as needed to support facilities operations, including but not limited to light physical tasks such as lifting, assembling furniture, and moving items as needed.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations to share learnings and recommendations with senior leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements throughout the internship.
  • Assume responsibility for special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment toward a degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum Junior or beyond collegiate experience required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic knowledge in area of study (e.g., principles of facilities management, construction, architecture/design, and/or business operations).
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all internship functions.
  • Ability to interpret and create simple diagrams and/or layouts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to organize and maintain structured Excel spreadsheets and tracking resources.
  • Communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers at all levels.
  • A positive and proactive approach to work, demonstrating enthusiasm, adaptability, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or adverse conditions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient computer literacy, including comfort with Microsoft systems, Office suite, and Excel.
  • Research and critical-thinking abilities, with skill to successfully organize work and manage time.
  • Intermediate typing skills to meet the needs of this position.
  • Current driver’s license and reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage; additionally, the ability to drive regularly in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • The ability to work with minimal or no supervision.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in an office environment preferred.
  • Experience with CAD, floor planning, or design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Visio, or similar) preferred.
