Lead Manufacturing Operations
We are seeking an experienced Production / Plant Manager to oversee the daily operations of a busy manufacturing facility in Detroit, MI. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving production, safety, quality, and operational excellence while leading a team of supervisors and plant personnel.
The ideal candidate is a proven manufacturing leader with experience managing production schedules, improving operational efficiency, developing teams, and creating a culture focused on safety and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do
Production & Operations
  • Lead all daily plant operations to ensure production goals and customer delivery requirements are met.
  • Develop and adjust production schedules based on business needs.
  • Monitor workflow, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve throughput.
  • Coordinate priorities for urgent orders and time-sensitive shipments.
  • Maximize utilization of labor, equipment, and materials.
Leadership
  • Lead Production Supervisors, Shipping & Receiving, and Maintenance.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors and production employees.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, performance management, and employee development.
  • Build a positive, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a safety-first culture throughout the facility.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and adherence to all safety regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure products meet quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Drive process improvements that reduce waste, scrap, and downtime.
  • Support ISO compliance and quality initiatives.
  • Lead corrective actions for quality issues.
Financial & Operational Performance
  • Manage labor costs, overtime, and material usage.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, capital projects, and equipment planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate closely with Shipping, Receiving, Maintenance, Sales, and Operations leadership.
  • Communicate production status, risks, and delays proactively.
  • Help align production capacity with customer commitments.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 7+ years of manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years of plant leadership or production management experience
  • Manufacturing experience within metal fabrication, steel processing, or similar industries preferred
  • Strong production scheduling and workflow management experience
  • Experience leading supervisors and production teams
  • Knowledge of OSHA, quality systems, and continuous improvement
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills
