What is Extreme Engineering Solutions?

Extreme Engineering Solutions generally refers to a company or teams that design and manufacture rugged, embedded computing solutions for use in harsh environments such as military, aerospace, industrial, and transportation applications. These solutions often include high-performance computer boards, systems, and software that can withstand extreme temperatures, vibration, and other challenging conditions. The goal is to provide reliable, mission-critical hardware and software that operates dependably in environments where standard equipment might fail. Extreme Engineering Solutions may also refer to the specialized engineering practices and technologies used to create such robust products.

What types of projects do engineers typically work on at Extreme Engineering Solutions, and how does cross-functional collaboration play a role?

Engineers at Extreme Engineering Solutions often work on the development of embedded computing systems for defense, aerospace, and industrial applications. Projects usually involve designing high-performance hardware and software solutions that require close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and quality assurance engineers. Working in this environment means regularly participating in design reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and integration testing, which fosters teamwork and continuous learning. Collaboration is essential, as project requirements often evolve and require input from multiple technical disciplines to deliver robust, mission-critical products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Extreme Engineering Solutions engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an engineer at Extreme Engineering Solutions, you need a solid background in electrical or computer engineering, embedded systems, and experience with hardware and software integration, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Design Engineer

Job Description:

INNOVATE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES!

At Milwaukee Tool we firmly believe that our People and our Culture are the secrets to our success. We build the tools that power infrastructure, drive physical investment, and help shape the world we live in - join us as part of our Front-End Innovation team. Our team partners directly with end users, bringing them into the process to understand the work they do, to create solutions that address unmet needs and unlock new levels of productivity and safety.

As a Design Engineer on the Front-End Innovation team, you will identify real user problems and translate them into breakthrough product concepts that define our future portfolio. You will operate in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, supporting projects from early discovery through concept development, validation, and handoff.

This role is built for engineers who are curious, empathetic, and hands-on: individuals who thrive on turning user insights into tangible, high-impact solutions. You will be empowered to learn quickly, own your work end-to-end, and drive innovation that delivers meaningful, real-world impact, backed by the resources and scale of an industry-leading organization.

You will define our next generation of tools and solutions by:

  • Building and iterating prototypes, leveraging 3D modeling, simulation, and rapid prototyping tools
  • Generating and refining concepts in ambiguous problem spaces using structured ideation and good engineering judgment
  • Participating in and translating field research into user feedback, observations, and actionable insights
  • Performing engineering analysis to evaluate feasibility, performance, risk, and design tradeoffs
  • Driving collaboration with product marketing, design research, industrial design, NPD/ADV engineering, and project leadership to push the boundaries of innovation
  • Communicating clearly to stakeholders, including design intent, tradeoffs, progress, and recommendations
  • Defining and evaluating critical user benefits, business fit, and technical feasibility

What TOOLS You Bring

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in product development, innovation, or concept engineering, with demonstrated ability to deliver innovative solutions. Experience on front end innovation teams preferred.
  • Evolving foundation in engineering fundamentals (mechanics, materials, analysis, tolerancing, statics, dynamics, and manufacturing processes)
  • Experience creating and using prototypes, models, or other tools to drive learning and decision-making
  • Experience with CAD, Analysis Tools, 3D Printing, rapid prototyping methods, and office suite
  • Ability to leverage strategy-level critical thinking skills with a growing understanding of supporting disciplines to ensure the right ideas move forward
  • A curious, hands-on attitude driven by extreme ownership and bias toward action
  • Ability to operate with speed, agility, and urgency in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
  • High interest in tools of trade and improving how they are employed
  • Ability to travel 10-20% of the time (domestic and international)

Why Milwaukee Tool

  • Join a culture driven by relentless improvement and
    a user-focused, solution-driven mindset
  • Work on products that directly improve the lives of professionals on the jobsite
  • Be part of a team obsessed with disruptive innovation
  • Grow quickly through real ownership and technical challenges

What Sets You Apart

  • You have an entrepreneurial, user-centric mindset
  • You take ownership and follow through
  • You have a penchant for building over analyzing
  • You are energized by ambiguity and fast iteration
  • You take initiative to seek out opportunities and champion solutions

Our Perks and Benefits:

  • Robust health, dental and vision insurance plans
  • Generous 401 (K) savings plan
  • Education assistance
