Job description

SUMMARY: The Senior Export Compliance Specialist enhances VSE Aviation’s Trade Compliance Program by executing advanced export control assessments, complex classifications, and regulatory analysis. Serving as a subject matter expert in the EAR, and global export requirements, this role exercises greater regulatory judgment and autonomy than the Compliance Specialist.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct advanced Sales Order compliance reviews, including detailed restricted party screening, red flag assessment, sensitive country evaluation, and resolution of routine compliance concerns with minimal oversight.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve export data discrepancies by proactively coordinating with internal teams and customers to ensure shipment readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare, review, and validate all export documentation, including AES filings, commercial invoices, SLIs, and other controlled documents to ensure regulatory accuracy and prevent compliance gaps.
  • Perform detailed ECCN and Schedule B classifications using product specifications, engineering data, and regulatory resources; propose corrections and maintain classification accuracy within applicable systems.
  • Independently assess and resolve standard red flag indicators and escalate only complex or high risk concerns to management with recommended actions.
  • Apply advanced working knowledge of the EAR in daily decision making, including an analysis of licensing requirements, end use/end user determinations, and export jurisdiction considerations.
  • Support compliance audits, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior team members and assist with training.
  • Develop proficiency in preparing and administering export license applications, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree
    • OR an additional 3 years of specific work experience in lieu of a degree
  • 4+ year of relevant/technical work experience
  • An understanding of Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
  • Familiarity with international shipping documents such as commercial invoices, packing lists, air waybills, and export licenses; including consignee information, INCOTERMS, harmonized tariff codes, Schedule B and nomenclature, country of origin, customs value, export classification, and license data. 
  • Sincere interest in field of Import / Export operations and its strategic impact on global success. 
  • Ability and desire to learn - growth mindset. 
  • Strong planning, organization, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision making, oral and written communication skills. 
  • The ability to effectively handle time critical issues and meet goals despite unexpected setbacks, obstacles, or time constraints. 
  • Proficiency using various software, mainly ACE, AES Direct, SIGMA360, SNAP-R, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe, and Outlook.
  • U.S. Citizen.
