What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Experienced Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Experienced Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages (such as Java, Python, or C++), problem-solving abilities, and a relevant degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with development frameworks, version control systems (like Git), cloud platforms, and often certifications in specific technologies are highly valuable. Effective communication, teamwork, and adaptability help engineers collaborate on complex projects and respond to evolving requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial to delivering reliable, efficient software solutions and excelling in dynamic engineering environments.

What opportunities for mentorship and leadership are available to experienced software engineers within most organizations?

Experienced software engineers often have the chance to mentor junior team members, lead project teams, or take ownership of significant technical initiatives. Many companies encourage senior engineers to participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions, which can enhance leadership skills while contributing to the team's growth. Additionally, organizations frequently offer pathways into technical leadership roles, such as Tech Lead or Engineering Manager, enabling experienced engineers to expand their influence and impact across projects.

What are experienced software engineers?

Experienced software engineers are professionals who design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and systems. They typically have several years of industry experience, which enables them to take on complex projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to architecture and strategic decisions. In addition to strong programming skills, experienced software engineers often possess expertise in software design patterns, system architecture, and project management. Their role is crucial for ensuring code quality, scalability, and the successful delivery of software products.

What is the difference between Experienced Software Engineer vs Software Developer?

AspectExperienced Software EngineerSoftware Developer

Job description

Software Engineer, HPC Network Optimization

Make an Impact Where It Matters Most

At Intelliforce, we build software that helps high-performance computing environments stay fast, reliable, and mission ready. In this role, you will join a team responsible for configuring, testing, characterizing, and optimizing networking components for HPC systems running in Linux. Your work will help improve platform performance, strengthen automation, and support the infrastructure mission teams rely on every day.

What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out

This role gives you the chance to work close to the technical core of HPC operations, where software, networking, automation, and performance all meet. You will help improve how complex systems behave under load, support containerized environments, and contribute to the tooling and workflows that keep the platform stable and efficient. It is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys Linux, Python, system-level troubleshooting, and learning how large compute environments work in the real world.

At Intelliforce, your work is visible and your growth matters. Because we support prime programs, our teams stay close to meaningful mission work with real momentum. Because we are a small business, leadership is accessible, communication is direct, and strong engineering gets noticed. Add in long-term stability, strong benefits, and a people-first culture, and this becomes more than another early-career software role. It is a chance to build hands-on experience in an environment where solid technical work makes a real difference.

Hereโ€™s What Your Day-to-Day Could Include

  • Configure, test, characterize, and optimize networking components for HPC systems in a Linux environment
  • Use Bash and Python to automate manual processes and improve repeatability
  • Support containerized services across Docker, Podman, and containerd environments
  • Help strengthen CI/CD workflows and source-controlled development practices
  • Work with engineering teammates to improve platform performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Support testing and troubleshooting efforts across mission-focused HPC environments

Minimum Qualifications

  • Clearance: Top Secret Clearance with Polygraph, must be active. We do not have the ability to sponsor clearances
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen. We cannot sponsor visas
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus 2 years of experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity
  • Or 4 years of experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity

Required Skills

  • Experience using the Linux CLI and Linux tools
  • Experience developing Bash scripts to automate manual processes
  • Recent software development experience using Python
  • Understanding of basic parallel programming concepts
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, Podman, and containerd
  • Familiarity with CI/CD principles, methodologies, and tools such as GitLab CI and Jenkins
  • Experience with Git source control system

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with observability and analytics platform solutions such as Splunk
  • Familiarity with automation frameworks including Ansible for orchestrating deployment
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or Scaled Agile Framework, SAFe, methodologies
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite including JIRA and Confluence
