AI Operations Specialist with Django Experience (Volunteer)

Organization: A Free Bird | 501(c)(3) Nonprofit

Location: Remote

Position Type: Unpaid Role / Volunteer

Commitment: 5–10 hours per week | Minimum over 3-month commitment

About Us

A Free Bird is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering children diagnosed with cancer through artistic expression. Through creative programs in art, music, writing, and more, we help children build confidence, process emotions, and find strength during their journey.

Position Overview

The AI Specialist with Django Experience plays a key role in enhancing organizational efficiency through the use of artificial intelligence and automation tools. This position focuses on evaluating internal workflows, identifying opportunities for AI integration, and implementing solutions that improve productivity across departments.

You will collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to streamline operations, reduce manual workload, and support data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate internal workflows and identify opportunities for AI-driven automation
  • Implement and optimize AI tools to improve operational efficiency (e.g., content generation, data processing, workflow automation)
  • Collaborate with departments (HR, Marketing, Finance, Programs) to integrate AI solutions into daily operations
  • Develop and maintain AI-assisted systems for documentation, reporting, and communication
  • Conduct research on emerging AI tools and best practices relevant to nonprofit operations
  • Analyze performance of AI implementations and recommend improvements
  • Support training and onboarding of team members on AI tools and systems
  • Assist in building scalable processes using AI to support organizational growth

Qualifications

  • 1–2+ years of experience with AI tools, automation, data analysis, or related fields
  • Familiarity with generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) and workflow tools with Django Experience
  • Understanding of process optimization and operational efficiency
  • Ability to analyze workflows and recommend scalable solutions
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams
  • Basic knowledge of data handling, APIs, or scripting is a plus but not required

  • Communicate proactively and work collaboratively with fellow volunteers
