Job Overview
Manages and enforces the organization of information assets and their relationships in digital systems related to end-user information products. Designs information relationships to support optimum content reuse to support current and future product/user information needs. Develops methods, techniques and directs technical writing teams. Owns and supports an expanding organizational view of interoperable information assets, primarily in (but not limited to) a DITA XML framework.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Collaboration: Work with Program Manager, management team and IT to identify objectives and best architecture approach to success. Work with writing teams for code reviews, quality/reuse audits, metadata strategies, etc to align processes and improve experience. Collaborate with IT and system suppliers to ensure maximum uptime of authoring systems.
  • Information Gathering: Research metadata and content strategies, XML (DITA) releases with system and industry best practices to align Komatsu service content for reuse, organization, improvement. Develop and review standards related to information development (Graphics, Styles, Reuse techniques, etc.).
  • Information Development:
    • Maintains and revise information model.
    • Defines new and modifications of output transforms
    • Support Technical Publications efforts for 7 major product lines between Construction and Mining
    • Will support additional product lines
    • Perform "Code Reviews" of technical content structures and authoring methods
    • Review adherence to all applicable information standards.
  • Project Management: Manage architecture, reuse, styling, and transform projects within the authoring system. Support management where applicable when monitoring progress on team modifications to content and metadata, etc.
  • Leadership: Manage and refine information model(s) for department efficiency. Direct and train staff in organizational usage of XML digital systems. Recommend possible upgrades to systems and processes.
  • Technology Integration: Work with Program Manager, management team and suppliers to ensure maximum uptime of authoring systems. Support North American and global content alignment strategies as defined by TechComm leadership across products and business divisions.
  • Technology Leadership: Manage information assets to ensure interoperability with other information assets. Test systems to ensure upgrades and changes are effective before deployment to technical writing staff

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or related military experience, and 5 years relatable technical communications experience
  • Strong experience in component content management and strategy, specifically with DITA XML, XHTML, and PDF.
  • Experience with information lifecycle management, information ecosystems and toolchains
  • Experience with graphics standards
  • Experience with language translation automation and processes
  • Technical aptitude to understand engineering information and processes
  • UX Design experience and aptitude
  • Taxonomy and metadata development and management
  • PC and software proficiency. (Office 365 Apps, Adobe Apps, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, dependable, self-starter that can manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize across those activities.
  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of Komatsu products, systems and markets a plus.
  • Japanese language skills a plus
  • MadCap IXIAsoft CCMS and Oxygen experience a plus
  • Windchill and Arbortext experience a plus
