Job description

The Salary Payroll Specialist position is responsible for processing and managing the companyโ€™s semi-monthly salary payroll, including reviewing payroll data for accuracy and ensuring payments are made on time.ย  In addition, the role maintains payroll data in the HRIS system, implementing process improvements, ensuring data quality, and analyzing and reporting on payroll data.ย  ย Excellent analytical skills are required in this role, along with the ability to work with highly confidential information.ย 

This role will partner closely with Human Resources, Benefits, Hourly Payroll and Controllers to meet compliance requirements and business needs.
Responsibilitiesย 

  • Serve as subject matter expert for payroll areas of the Dayforce HRIS system.
  • Act as key point of contact for salaried employees and be the go-to person for employee questions, providing exceptional customer service.ย 
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and Local payroll tax laws.
  • Complete payroll onboarding process for all salaried new hires and hourly transfers to salary, including communication with new employees.ย 
  • Work closely with management to ensure final pay, PTO payouts, and severance is accurate and compliant for separating employees.
  • Calculate, document, and pay project based exempt salaried overtime.ย  Provide reporting to controllers upon request.
  • Apply discretion and sound judgment in managing processes, making decisions, and handling sensitive information.
  • Communicate and process garnishments and wage attachments for salaried employees.
  • Process Semi-Monthly salary payroll for approximately 1,800 salaried employees nationwide.
  • Collaborate with benefits to adjust pay and benefit deductions for Leave of Absences.
  • Set up and end per diems based on employee travel agreements received from the businesses.
  • Open and manage any necessary Dayforce payroll support tickets.ย 
  • Review Wage and Tax reports for quarter and annual close to ensure accuracy for tax reporting.ย 

Basic Requirementsย 

  • Minimum of 3โ€“5 years of experience processing salaried employee payroll.
  • Compliance Awareness.
  • Multi-State Payroll Skills.
  • Business Acumen, including written and oral communication skills.ย 
  • Payroll Expertise. (CPP or FPC preferred).
  • Professional discretion and demonstrated ability handling confidential information.
  • Microsoft Office Suite. (Intermediate to Advanced Excel competency).

Preferred Requirementsย 

  • CPP Certification or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Local to the Kansas City Metro.
