What is an executive technology professional?

An Executive Technology professional, often referred to as a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) or Chief Information Officer (CIO), is a senior leader responsible for overseeing an organization's technology strategy and implementation. They align technological initiatives with business goals, manage IT teams, and ensure the organization leverages technology effectively for growth and innovation. Their role often involves evaluating emerging technologies, managing budgets, and collaborating with other executives to drive digital transformation.

How does an executive technology role typically collaborate with other departments to align IT strategy with business goals?

In an Executive Technology role, such as a Chief Technology Officer (CTO), collaboration with other departments is essential to ensure that technology initiatives support overall business objectives. This often involves working closely with executive leadership, operations, finance, and marketing teams to understand their needs and challenges. This is a hands-on technology leadership role for someone who still enjoys engaging in architecture discussions, evaluating technical solutions, mentoring engineers, and influencing engineering strategy—not someone who has become disconnected from the underlying technology.

  • Improve engineering processes, governance, accountability, and operational excellence
  • Ensure disaster recovery, business continuity, security, regulatory compliance, and production readiness
  • Develop future technical leaders through mentoring, coaching, and cross-training
  • Build a culture focused on continuous improvement, collaboration, innovation, and engineering excellence
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive technology experience
  • 7+ years of technology leadership experience
  • Strong IBM Mainframe background
  • Previous hands-on COBOL development experience
  • Experience leading enterprise application development teams
  • Experience managing both domestic and offshore technical teams

  • Core Banking platforms

  • Mainframe modernization initiatives
  • API integration
  • Distributed systems
  • Cloud platforms
  • DevOps
  • CI/CD
  • Data architecture
  • Banking or other highly regulated industries
  • Disaster recovery and business continuity planning

Successful candidates will demonstrate:
  • Deep understanding of IBM Mainframe environments and COBOL development
  • Experience leading complex enterprise technology organizations
  • Ability to modernize legacy platforms without compromising operational stability
