Area Executive Director RN

The Area Executive Director (AED) – Hospice provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership across multiple hospice branch locations throughout New Mexico. This role serves as a key liaison between Branch Executive Directors and the Area Vice President of Operations (AVP), ensuring alignment with organizational goals while driving clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and strong financial results.

The AED is responsible for fostering growth, strengthening leadership capabilities at the branch level, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered end-of-life care consistent with organizational values and standards.

What You'll Do:
  • Provide direct oversight and support to multiple branch Executive Directors, ensuring effective day-to-day operations across all hospice locations.
  • Standardize processes and ensure consistent execution of policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Monitor operational metrics, identify gaps, and implement performance improvement initiatives.
  • Drive financial performance across assigned branches, including census growth, revenue targets, expense management, and EBITDA.
  • Partner with finance to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and productivity benchmarks.
  • Analyze financial reports and operational KPIs to ensure achievement of business objectives.
  • Ensure all locations meet or exceed federal, state, and accreditation standards (e.g., Medicare Conditions of Participation, hospice regulations).
  • Promote a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety, and quality outcomes.
  • Partner with clinical leadership to address survey readiness, audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop branch Executive Directors and emerging leaders.
  • Drive leadership accountability for performance, engagement, and culture.
  • Participate in recruitment, succession planning, and retention strategies for key leadership roles.
  • Partner with sales and business development teams to drive strategic growth initiatives and market expansion.
  • Monitor referral trends, payer mix, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment between operations and sales to optimize census growth and patient access.
  • Translate organizational strategies into actionable plans at the branch level.
  • Lead initiatives such as acquisitions, de novos, integrations, and service line expansions.
  • Collaborate with the AVP and senior leadership to achieve regional and organizational goals.
  • Build strong relationships with physicians, referral sources, community organizations, and healthcare partners.
  • Serve as a visible leader within the community and industry.
  • Escalate and resolve complex operational or patient care issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, or related field required
  • Graduate from an accredited registered nursing program strongly preferred with a current license to practice in the state
  • Master’s degree (MHA, MBA, or related) preferred
  • Minimum of 5–7+ years of leadership experience in hospice or healthcare operations
  • Multi-site leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in managing financial performance, growth, and operational outcomes
  • Deep understanding of hospice regulations, reimbursement models, and compliance requirements
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage P&L performance
  • Proven leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational execution
  • Frequent travel required within assigned state/region
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance are required.
