Cyber Security Reporter

role requires minimum of 2 days on site in the Boston, MA office

$56,000 - $70,000 + bonus

For the security practitioner caught between rapidly evolving threats and demanding executives, IANS Research is a clear-headed resource for decision making and articulating risk. We provide experience-based security insights for Chief Information Security Officers and their teams. The core of our value comes from the IANS Faculty, a network of seasoned practitioners. We support client decisions and executive communications with Ask-an-Expert inquiries, our peer community, deployment-focused reports, tools and templates, and consulting.

 

Position Overview:

The Security Reporter will join an editorial organization currently expanding to provide in-depth, differentiated coverage of major themes and news in the rapidly evolving security space. The reporter will develop and cultivate sources comprised of industry experts and professionals, drawing heavily upon IANS' existing network of practitioners and subject matter experts, to author compelling and uniquely insightful content aimed at CISOs and their teams. The Reporter will also be expected to cover industry events, including IANS' own offerings; monitor ongoing developments, threats and trends; and actively consume the content of IANS and other security-focused information providers, in order both to enhance their reporting and develop an deepening base of sector knowledge over time.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

The Reporter will be expected to

  • Produce multiple stories a week, with an exclusive focus on generating compelling, unique content differentiated in the depth of its insight and the quality of its sources and reporting.
  • Actively leverage IANS' faculty and its expertise in linking experts to topics, to add insights and context to breaking news events.
  • Leverage IANS' existing rich library of content, including faculty-authored research, call summaries and transcripts, and proprietary white papers, to further enhance the quality of our reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with IANS' existing research and content teams.
  • Attend conferences and other industry events for stories and source cultivation.
  • Develop deep knowledge of IANS' customers and the security industry for the purposes of the most informed and relevant coverage.
  • Be comfortable with some expectations for off-hours work for major, breaking news or related responsibilities.

Skills and Experience: 

The Reporter at minimum should

  • Have at least one to two years of finance or business-related journalism experience, with a track record of enterprise reporting.
  • Be comfortable with data and data-driven reporting, preferably with some history of leveraging proprietary data to generate or enhance unique story angles.
  • Be comfortable with high expectations for productivity and turnaround time.
  • Possess strong comfort and familiarity with process and process management.
  • Be a proven collaborator and teammate, comfortable working in a globally distributed and remote environment.
