Position Title:Journalism Intern

Location: Sioux Falls
Minimum Salary: $18.83/hour
*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.
Position Description:
Intern Reporters will learn and perform duties equal to those of an entry-level professional Multi-Media Reporter in a public radio/public media environment. Interns cover and report a variety of news stories in person, over internet, or over phone; write for broadcast and for web (sdpb.org/news); gain experience producing and editing audio and/or video for broadcast and web using Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro or other similar software. Successful applicants will participate in live unscripted question/answer interviews with show host; host live news programs as needed and as skill level and aptitude allow; possible assignment with professional Radio, TV producers or reporters. They will exercise basic news judgement as well as other duties as assigned. Spring and Fall interns work up to 20 hours per week as schedule allows.
Applicants must have basic proficiency in Adobe Audition, Final Cut Pro, or other digital linear audio and video editing software. The ability to operate basic recording equipment, video and still camera equipment and news reporting skills are required.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
