Executive Minister information

What is an executive minister?

An Executive Minister is a senior leader within a religious organization, often responsible for overseeing the administration, vision, and direction of the church or denomination. They typically guide spiritual and operational matters, supervise other ministers, and serve as the chief executive officer of the organization. Their duties may include strategic planning, representing the faith community publicly, and ensuring the organization fulfills its mission. Executive Ministers often work closely with boards, committees, and congregations to implement policies and programs. The role requires strong leadership, organizational, and pastoral skills.

How does an executive minister balance administrative duties with spiritual leadership responsibilities?

An Executive Minister often manages a dual role, overseeing both the operational aspects of the organization and providing spiritual guidance to the congregation or community. This balance requires strong organizational skills to handle tasks like budgeting, staff management, and policy development, while also dedicating time for pastoral care, preaching, and community outreach. Effective Executive Ministers frequently delegate administrative tasks to trusted staff, allowing them to focus on vision-casting and spiritual leadership. Regular communication and collaboration with both administrative teams and ministry leaders help ensure all aspects of the role are addressed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an executive minister?

To excel as an Executive Minister, you need a deep understanding of theology, strong leadership abilities, and typically a master's degree in divinity or related field. Familiarity with church management software, financial oversight systems, and pastoral care tools is often required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and visionary communication set outstanding Executive Ministers apart. These competencies ensure effective spiritual leadership, organizational management, and the fostering of a healthy, engaged congregation.

As Taylor advances its work in artificial intelligence, the university seeks to engage emerging technologies with wisdom, humility, creativity, and fidelity to its mission. The Director of AI Strategy & Implementation will play a key role in helping Taylor model a thoughtful, faithful, and educationally responsible approach to AI in Christian higher education.
Taylor University seeks a highly collaborative, mission-aligned, and strategically minded Director of AI Strategy & Implementation to provide leadership for the implementation of major university-wide artificial intelligence initiatives. This full-time, grant-funded position is anticipated to begin January 1, 2027, dependent on grant funding, and will be housed within Taylor's Center for Digital & Extended Learning (CDEL).
