VP of Engineering

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead EMCORE's multi-disciplinary engineering organization. This executive will oversee all engineering functions, including systems, electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, test, and manufacturing engineering. They will be responsible for leading cross-functional collaboration to drive improvements in operational excellence, successful execution across the full product lifecycle, and innovation.


The ideal candidate brings strong organizational leadership and cross-functional teamwork, a proven record of successful project management, and an ability to lead the delivery of complex, high-reliability products from concept through production.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership, prioritization and direction for all engineering disciplines across EMCORE's product lines.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to improve product management, operations, supply chain, and manufacturing.
  • Own the annual engineering business planning process, translating product roadmaps into clear priorities, resource plans, and executable programs, and lead quarterly executive reviews on progress, risks, and recovery actions to ensure delivery against commitments.
  • Support customer engagements, proposals, technical reviews, and program strategy as a senior technical authority.
  • Oversee the full engineering lifecycle, including concept development, architecture, design, analysis, prototyping, verification, qualification, transition to manufacturing, and all sustaining and legacy product support.
  • Champion EMCORE operational and technological advancements and internal process improvements by promoting innovation in areas such as inertial navigation, advanced sensing, mixed-signal electronics, embedded systems, mechanical design, and software development.
  • Lead system integration efforts, including hardware bring-up, software integration, testing, and troubleshooting to effect improvements within EMCORE's operations.
  • Develop and execute engineering roadmaps aligned with EMCORE's strategy, customer needs, and emerging technologies.
  • Establish and maintain engineering best practices, design standards, documentation processes, and quality systems.
  • Ensure engineering programs meet performance, schedule, cost, and compliance requirements.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams and leaders.
  • Manage engineering budgets, resource allocation, staffing plans, and organizational structure.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software, or related field preferred).
  • Ability to effectively work cross-functionally and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Minimum 15 years of engineering experience, including 7+ years in senior leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams developing complex hardware and software systems.
  • Strong understanding of product development processes for high-reliability aerospace, defense, or industrial systems.
  • Experience with systems engineering, requirements decomposition, verification/validation, and configuration management.
  • Proven track record delivering products from concept through production.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools, documentation systems, and program management methodologies.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with inertial navigation systems (FOG, MEMS), advanced sensing technologies or related subcomponents and processes.
  • Knowledge in modern development methodologies (Agile/Jira, model-based design, digital engineering, etc.).
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal hardware, embedded software, mechanical design, and system-level integration.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or advanced technology sectors.
  • Understanding of digital signal processing and AI/ML-enabled embedded systems.
  • Background in manufacturing engineering, DFM/DFA, reliability engineering, or
    environmental qualification.
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations and implementing modern development processes.

Compensation:

The base pay range for this position is $,210,000 – $265,000 annually. This role may also be eligible for a bonus program and additional incentives. Final compensation will depend on qualifications and experience.
