Job description

Tutor Doctor of Marin County | Full time

San Rafael, United States | Posted on 08/20/2026

Important — please read before applying: We cannot guarantee a set number of hours or a block of hours. Tutors need to live in Marin County and be comfortable traveling to different parts of the county (from Tiburon up to Novato) for student sessions. If a significant commute isn't workable for you, this role likely isn't a fit.

We match highly qualified tutors with K–12 students across reading, math, executive functioning, and test prep.

  • Work with students in reading, math, executive functioning skills, or test prep, spanning grades K–12
  • Read and interpret student assessment results (cognitive and academic) to identify specific gaps and inform instruction
  • Apply targeted strategies based on those findings — addressing both areas of weakness and existing strengths, not just following a set curriculum
  • Align instruction with school curriculum while tailoring to each student's individual needs
  • Track progress and communicate consistently with families and our team

Special education teachers — your background in individualized instruction and working with diverse learning profiles is exactly what many of our students need.

We handle all client matching, scheduling, and billing — you focus on teaching, and you always have the flexibility to say yes or no to any match offered.

About Tutor Doctor: We are a locally owned and operated service serving families throughout Marin County. Every tutor match is personally overseen by our owner — a credentialed educator with 20+ years in Bay Area schools. We take our tutors seriously, because when tutors thrive, students do too.

Requirements
  • Experience: 3+ years of professional teaching or tutoring experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required
  • Preferred: Teaching credential, special education credential, or advanced degree (Master's/PhD)
  • Ability to read and act on formal student assessment data
  • $40–50/hr depending on grade level — among the highest tutor pay rates in Marin County
  • Flexible scheduling — your availability drives the match
  • We handle client matching, scheduling, and billing — you just teach
  • Paid onboarding and ongoing professional support
  • In-person tutoring across Marin County
  • Personally managed by a credentialed educator who knows the local school landscape
