Job description

Senior Sales Manager, Magnetic Materials

Location: Detroit, MI
Travel: Approximately 40%
Compensation: $125,000 to $135,000 base salary plus 40% bonus

I am currently supporting a global leader in advanced materials with the appointment of a Senior Sales Manager for their Magnetics business, based in Detroit. This is a strategic and high-visibility role reporting directly to the President of the Magnetic Materials segment.


The Role

This position will support and grow the Magnetics Division across the Detroit region, with a strong focus on automotive, electrification, and industrial manufacturing markets. You will take ownership of key accounts while driving new business development, particularly within permanent magnet electric motor applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow strategic accounts with a focus on long-term revenue and market penetration
  • Develop and execute multi-year account plans including forecasting and business strategy
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor, translating magnetic material capabilities into practical solutions
  • Lead senior-level customer engagements, including executive meetings and contract negotiations
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities in permanent magnet electric motors and related applications
  • Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to align product development with customer requirements
  • Coordinate with global teams, including Japan and other subsidiaries, on product strategy, pricing, and delivery
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer roadmaps to guide decision making
  • Maintain accurate forecasting, pipeline development, and CRM management, ideally using HubSpot
  • Support resolution of complex customer issues related to quality, performance, and delivery
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings
Required Skills and Experience
  • Strong technical understanding of magnetic materials such as neodymium and ferrite
  • Knowledge of automotive electrification, EV systems, robotics, and motor design principles
  • Proven experience managing large, complex, multi-million-dollar accounts
  • Ability to engage effectively with both engineering and procurement stakeholders
  • Strong commercial awareness including forecasting, ROI analysis, and product lifecycle management
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed organisation
  • Strategic mindset with strong problem-solving ability
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience in technical sales, account management, or business development
  • Background in magnetic materials, advanced materials, or related industrial sectors
  • Experience supporting automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or industrial manufacturing customers
  • Demonstrated success in closing high-value, complex deals and building long-term partnerships
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural, global environment
Travel

The role will initially focus on the Detroit area, with domestic travel across the United States driven by business development activity, alongside some international travel to Japan and Europe.
