IMSA Central is a brand new expansion charter school opening in Fall 2026. As a Founding Teacher, you have the opportunity to help build a school from day 1. A Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to students with disabilities across a range of eligibility categories. The teacher ensures compliance with IDEA, Article 7, and school policies while delivering differentiated instruction aligned with each student’s IEP. This role requires strong instructional planning, consistent data tracking, collaboration with general education teachers, and clear communication with families and service providers.

Please note this position is not for our North or West Campuses; it is for Central School.

Address: 2447 W 14th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222

Special Education Teacher Requirements:

Instructional Planning and Delivery:
  • Develop and implement specially designed instruction aligned to students’ IEP goals and state standards.
  • Provide direct instruction in small groups or one-on-one settings to address academic, behavioral, functional, or social-emotional needs.
  • Modify curriculum materials, assessments, and instructional strategies to ensure access to grade-level content.
  • Use evidence-based interventions for reading, math, writing, behavior, and executive functioning.
  • Maintain daily instructional logs, service minutes, and IEP progress monitoring data.

IEP Compliance & Case Management:
  • Develop, write, and update accurate, compliant IEPs in accordance with Article 7 and federal IDEA requirements.
  • Conduct or coordinate required assessments, data reviews, and progress monitoring.
  • Hold annual IEP meetings, case conferences, and all required parent meetings.
  • Ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented consistently across all settings.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all special education records.

Student Support & Differentiation:
  • Support students with varied needs, including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, OHI/ADHD, speech-language needs, developmental delays, and more.
  • Collaborate with related service providers (SLP, OT, PT, behavior specialists) to integrate supports.
  • Provide behavioral interventions, support plans, or social skills instruction as needed.
  • Assist in implementing MTSS/RTI strategies and identifying students who may require special education evaluation.

Collaboration & Inclusion Support:
  • Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co-teaching models.
  • Support teachers in implementing IEP accommodations, differentiation strategies, and classroom interventions.
  • Communicate regularly with families to discuss progress, needs, concerns, and growth.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, professional development, and school events.

Professional Development & Growth:
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to special education law, instructional practices, behavior supports, and disability-specific strategies.
  • Implement feedback from administrators, instructional coaches, and service providers.
  • Stay current with Article 7 updates, best practices for inclusive education, and system-wide special education expectations.

Special Education Teacher Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid Indiana Teaching License in Special Education (Mild Intervention, Severe/Intense, or equivalent) or ability to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Article 7, IEP development, compliance, and case management.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must complete and clear all required Indiana background checks for school personnel.

Please ensure you include 2-3 professional references with your application.
