Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:30 am-6:00 pm
The Flow Cytometry Technical Specialist will perform daily flow cytometry testing and analysis. The technician is responsible for evaluating data for accurate and quality results in accordance with established procedures and policies. Other responsibilities include daily QC/QA and adhering to regulatory and accrediting agency guidelines. Perform clerical and service duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Perform daily flow cytometry testing and analysis, including immunophenotyping, leukemia/lymphoma panels, and other specialized tests.

  • Evaluate data for accurate and quality results in accordance with established procedures and policies.

  • Conduct routine and complex laboratory procedures, maintaining proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu of the division or section.

  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.

  • Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, or director.

  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

  • Perform equipment validation, reagent optimization, and validation following regulatory guidelines and procedures.

  • Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions, inform Laboratory Director or pathologist of the problem, and call manufacturer's representative for assistance with troubleshooting as needed.

  • Prepare monthly/quarterly quality assurance reports within the established time frame.

  • Participate in CAP/CLIA inspections and regulatory agency inspection readiness.

  • Communicate effectively and timely as needed to co-workers, management, medical directors, and other divisions.

  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a biological, chemical or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology from an accredited institution (required).

  • Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP): MLS, MLT and/or appropriate specialist certification(s) (preferred)

Experience / Abilities:
  • Minimum four years' experience in a clinical flow lab (preferred).

  • Experience as an MLS in a hematology lab would also be acceptable.

  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Willingness to maintain confidential information.

  • Advanced experience with flow cytometry instrumentation, data analysis, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, including CAP, CLIA, and other relevant standards.
