What this job involves

The Chief Engineer is the senior technical leader for a premier event venue, responsible for all facility engineering operations. This executive role leads a professional engineering team and holds ultimate accountability for the performance, safety, and lifecycle management of the building's systems and infrastructure. Reporting to the Facility Director, you will serve as the technical voice on the leadership team, advising on capital investments, risk mitigation, and operational strategies to ensure systems operate flawlessly during high-profile events. This is an opportunity to lead organizational strategy, influence substantial capital investments, and establish standards of operational excellence in a competitive market.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Provide comprehensive leadership and strategic direction for the facility engineering department, including staffing, budgeting, and performance management.

  • Develop and manage multi-million dollar annual operating and multi-year capital improvement budgets.

  • Maintain technical oversight of all critical building systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, and building automation systems.

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and extend asset lifecycles.

  • Ensure comprehensive compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and fire codes.

  • Partner with facility operations, event management, and executive leadership to ensure engineering operations support overall business success.

  • Serve as the final escalation point for complex technical issues and client service concerns, ensuring timely and effective resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in commercial facilities management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.

  • Universal EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling certification.

  • Chief Engineer license, High Pressure Boiler Operator license, or equivalent as mandated by local regulations.

  • Proven capability in developing and managing multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations, and other regulatory frameworks governing facility operations.

  • Advanced proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree such as an MBA or Master's in Engineering Management.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or Facility Management Professional (FMP) certification.

  • Prior experience in hospitality, convention centers, sports facilities, or other event-driven environments.

  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry certification.

  • Specialized certifications in energy management (CEM), commissioning (CxA), or LEED operations.

  • Polished executive presence with exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
